Flying out to New York tomorrow afternoon (13:30) from Heathrow and quite
frankly I'm getting nervous as hell. Hows the weather looking down towards
London and does anyone have advice on which roads to avoid? I realise my
flight may be cancelled or delayed, but my first priority is getting to
Heathrow on time. I'm coming from Wiltshire (not too far from Bath or
Salisbury) Its all well and good that all the news sites say "don't travel
unless you have to" but a) I have to, and b) hows about telling us where to
avoid!

Its weird, we've had glorious sunshine this week here, have barely even seen
a cloud since Wednesday and haven't seen snow settle since about 1994 or
something, seems strange that the rest of the country is fooked.

Cheers

Chris.

I am 20 miles west of Heathrow
There's not much snow here.
The roads are fine around here - south of Reading

Not sure about travel in and about London today, but maybe it will be
better tomorrow for your flight. Think positive thoughts. : )

Let me be the first to say Welcome to New York!! Hope you have a great
time here.

Thanks, thinking positive :) Tis ridiculous in this country, the Canadians
and Norwegians etc are probably laughing at the state of our rail/road
networks.

I done Reading to Stevenage last nite. Reading to M25 - around 1 hour.
Next hour spent getting to J21A (M1) then the next 12-1/2 bloody hours
getting to Stevenage via the A414 & A1(M)!!!!
M4 IMO is normally a pretty decent MWay, plus and ice from tonight
should have melted by then

The only people laughing at ours are the tories that bought shares in rail,
made a killing and buggered off with the cash.

I've just driven back from Stevenage to Bristol. It took me 2 1/4 hours and
apart from the A1(M) everything is pretty much okay. People seem to be
staying at home. You'll be fine!

Heathrow cancelled 180, and it was or is still pretty much chaos. I had a
friend who was supposed to be flying to New Zealand yesterday afternoon and
he still hasn't gone.

It took me 2.5 hours to drive somewhere yesterday that normally takes 15
minutes! But some poor buggers have been stuck on the motorways overnight.

The past 2 weeks have been very cold. Around -10 - -15C.

There's a warming trend however and today it's cloudy, overcast and around
+3C. More info here:

Would do but they tend to cancel flights a couple hours before the flight
maximum, and I'm leaving at 6:30am to make sure I have more than enough time
to spare.

stick to the main roads and you should be fine it all went tits up last
night but things are getting better may have something to do with people
staying indoors . Be glad you missed the worst of what with the firemans
strike having train stations shut and the central line going all pear
shaped.
