Hello all ,
My girlfriend and myself are considering moving to Bradford from Kent as
this is where she grew up and also because the houses' are dirt cheap. Ergo
, I would just like to ask any of the locals what the area is like and also
if jobs are easily avaliable. She particularly fancies Shipley , because she
grew up there , but anywhere in Bradford is OK by us.
Any information would be gratefully recieved as I have no knowledge of the
area at all , in fact the furthest north I have ever been was Loughborough
University a few weeks back and before that it was Chelmsford! :-)
Cheers , Steve Cole.

Shipley itself is fine, though avoid Windhill. Baildon, parts of Heaton,
Saltaire or Nab Wood are better still. As regards jobs, what sort of
work are you looking for?

Hello ,
She knows Baildon apparently she lived there for a while too. Anyway ,
work, mmmm, well I'm a fully qualified Painter and Decorator , so any
building developments in the area would be handy. But for the last 2 years
or so I've been doing direct sales , so thats basically experience in sales
, customer service , admin and getting shouted at by disgruntled customers.
Also , just wondering what the local attitude is to southerners? Is it the
"You soft , shandy-drinking , southern puff" alledgedly predominant in
Manchester or is it more relaxed. Bear in mind I carry a cockney accent.
Cheers , Steve Cole.

There are zillions of direct sales jobs advertised in the area. I've got a
mate who's a painter so I'll ask him what the job market is like the next
time I see him.

I moved to Yorkshire from the south about 4 years ago and have never
encountered any problems. Most folk assume that if you've moved up here,
it's because you like the place. Obviously, if you spend all your time
talking about how great London is, you'll make yourself unpopular.

Cheers

Wibseys nice, but its right next to Buttershaw so I'm not sure how a
southerner would cope :-).

Just kidding mate, some nice pubs and all in Wibsey.

Then again, at the weekends those pubs on Wibsey High Street do get rather
full of people from Buttershaw. You're right though, there are some good
ones there, especially the Gaping Goose.

BTW Steve... you mentioned about new housing developments. There's one up at
Clayton Heights, not too far from Wibsey or Butershaw; maybe there might be
work for you there?

Tez.

You think you've got problems with an accent? Take a listen to mine!
Nobody cares how you talk: it's how you treat other people that counts
around here.
