This is a good point. My wife is a northerner and often talks about the
north/south divide in friendliness and sociability - people are more
inclined to talk up there. I don't know whether it is due to the fact that
the south contains more people who have migrated from other parts of the
country than the north?
Having said this, Bolton are currently beating Palace so my friendliness
towards northerners is sorely being tested.

Oh no - dont let the footie get in the way of us all getting along -
otherwise you southerners would hate us "oop north" for beating you
lot in footie/rugby cricket and just about everything else !
Only joking - hehehe
Any other zombies like me take the 7:23 from Maidstone???

I'll be there on the jolly old 0542 from Gillingham in the morning.
Jolly? Not.
Its just as well I don't start early-turns at 0600.
Still, there are some benefits and pleasures of being up so early in
the mornings........but........er.........sadly I can't think of any
at the moment!
Andy.
Well - you do get to see the other zombies snoring open-mouthed and
looking daft! - or get to hear radio one blaring out from the other

Nothing changes, does it? I well remember the 8.01 from Blackheath to
Charing-X, and this was in (shhh, don't tell anyone...) 1960 (!) - then the
tube to Knightsbridge. Sardines, or what!? I gave up after 16 months and
went off and joined the RAF. That done, I've worked in Cheltenham (Glos)
for the last five years - till 3 weeks ago - and thought that commuting was
the pits if I met more that six cars ahead of me at a T-junction.

(Now enjoying a life of leisure in Staple, nr Sandwich)
Tried that once (commuting that is). Didn't like it so I moved to the
North East - much quieter and cleaner. Travelling from Maidstone to
Chatham every day was bad enough.
I was born in Brompton so am I a Chav or what?
When I worked in Maidstone I lived in Hastings Road my office was only
a half a mile away on Bishop's Way but being a Social Worker I had to
take my car in. That took 45 minutes. What I always like about
travelling on a train in Kent is how everyone is so chatty in the
morning especially the ones in pinstripe suits. ;-)
