Thanks, I'm sorry about that, we've been in Malta for 2 weeks and I just
couldn't find the time/be bothered to check my mail every day. As a result,
and because of the staggering amount of spam mail I get, it soon filled up.
I did text No. 1 son to download some of my messages, but I still came home
to about 900 emails and a similar message to yours from Virgin Media! I
will try harder in future.
If I can allude to another of your posts, when I went on Facebook tonight
(first time in 15 days), I was amazed at how little I cared about most of
the stuff on there. Perhaps we all ought to get back to the newsgroups,
for adult and intellectual stimulation in the form of impassioned debate
over the issues of the day..... I'll do that tomorrow, maybe, right now
I'm going for a beer.

I am surprised that your email addy provider does not filter out the spam
before forwarded your emails to your Outlook Express system. Or do you go
direct to web mail? I set u a message rule that sends emails from named
people to a folder of their own to avoid cluttering up the "Inbox".

I am off of Facebook due to the inane nature of things there. I miss the
pics on my children's account. As for "adult and intellectual stimulation
in the form of impassioned debate over the issues of the day", that means
politics. Gawd! Facebook here I come! (not)

I do not blame you.

I have said in here before, and I will say it again... Facebook is
what you make it, to a certain extent.

To a certain extent, yes. :-)

Jack, I must take notice of what you say in future.

Such is life, Jack.
With any "club" or social organisation you get as much out of it that you
put into it. Trouble with Facebook I post something that is of the level of
Facebook "friends" i.e. something that we would talk about face-to-face and
get no response. They (Facebook friends) want something lighter, trivial,
etc. I do not get the return for the input due to quality of Facebook
authors who communicate in words of one syllable or near text speak

How can you compare Facebook with Usenet ? Like you do with Apples and
Oranges?
On Facebook you add friends etc and update them on what you are doing and
post pictures of your trip to South Africa. If your friends are bothered
enough they comment on these things and that's that.
On Usenet you post anonymously about topics you think is of interest to you.
Then other anonymous chat bots start replying and it spreads into a form of
threaded discussion/argument whatever. The beauty of this is that you do not
know the participants and you do not have to consider their emotions when
you hammer your point home using whatever disgusting language you want to
use.
Completely different forms of mediums and in no way comparable.
Usenet really has faced competition from online discussion forums. But the
difference being that these forums are set up and controlled by certain
individuals who seem to have power on what is said and discussed on the
forums. They also seem interested in collecting data on their users and
dictate terms. A bit like New Labour really.
No, you can take it or leave it. ;-)

Choose your 'friends' more wisely then, would be my suggestion. ;-)

lol Good point. If I did that I would run out of "friends" ;-)
