According to this Greg, Stephen and myself are the best trimmers. I
will note that I am the best!

But look at this, Stephen and Greg amongst the worst. Keeping company
with the likes of Lyn.
I guess that Stephen and Greg being in each category is due to stats
going funny with low sample rate.

We used to say GMT but now it's UTC.
Whether it is GMT or UTC we all only have a limited amount of it!

I'm probably split over several readers now. I stopped using Unison,
using Forte on the work laptop (steam powered), and making do with
Thunderbird for the time being on the Mac till I find one I like.

Tsk! They are not the same. Quite definitely not the same. One is
based on atomic clocks, one on astronomical observations at Greenwich.

And not of all us are posting in UTC+0.

Well as it only counts those who posted more than 5 articles and only
4 fall into that category you're going to meet eatch other going down
(or is it up)

When BST comes to an end should I set my watch by GMT or UTC? :)
--
Patrick
Depends whether you want to be astronomically correct and in sync with
the moon and stars, or in sync with a lump of radioactive stuff.
Though thinking about it, as BST is GMT+1, you should set it as GMT.
If, however, you are currently UTC+1 hour and not in BST, then you
should return to UTC.

I didn't do it. Probably.
I'm quite convinced they installed one of those radioactive thingies at
Greenwich, something about it being more accurate than large floaty things
far away, dunno.
--
Kate
I might have done it. Not sure.
It's not "more accurate", it's measuring a different thing ;-)
>Niles' party was the most interesting thing.
Despite the fact that I was the only one from here there :)
n
That's ok then, I said I didn't know, cheers :) Although, aren't they both
trying to measure the passing of time? Think I'm having a senior moment,
sorry :(
--
Kate
One definition of "time" is as measured by the "radioactive thingies",
i.e. a succession of precisely-equal time units. This is useful for
science and stuff.
The other is "what time of day is it?" - e.g. "is it dark outside?"
This is useful for everyday life ;-)
The reason the latter is not the same as the former is that the "large
floaty things far away" (and nearby) do not behave in an as orderly
a fashion as might be hoped and therefore if we used the former
science definition for everyday life our clocks would very gradually
get into disagreement with the sun, which would no-longer be overhead
at midday. This would eventually get confusing, and inconvenient.
Yeah, but the radioactive one is too accurate, and so occassionally
has to be made less accurate to get back in sync with the inaccurate
one.
I rather like the analogy between a digital and an analogue clock, on a
digital clock I can see what time it is exactly, while on an analogue
clock I can see how much time it is to something, as in I can see that
there is a wedge of time to go before I will be late... :-) Does that
make any sense?
--
\/ Lyn David Thomas
Both explanations were good, thanks :)

That's the attitude, downright Crispiesque: drag them to your level!
Alternately, you could come over next week-end when when we're going
dancing with my firefighter friend and her girlfriends?
Haha, that's the best offer I've had all week! I would but I'll be in
Turkey topping up the tan so maybe next time :) Feel free to act as my PR

Great weather, a fantastic jeep safari and awesome scuba diving, a brilliant
holiday even though it rained on two days. Still, the tan's coming along
nicely :) And to top it off, I came home to a brand new motorbike, I love
it!
