What is it with that game? I tried it recently, it was the most dire
thing I've ever seen! Apparently it's quite popular, passes me by
completely.
Boom blox is good, one of those one-handed puzzle games you can play
while drinking a cuppa.
I also liked super monkey ball banana blitz, not so sure now, I've not
played it in a long time and I'm on the really hard levels but am out
of practice!

Last 6 months? Hmm.
Little King's Story is excellent.
House of the Dead Overkill is great, although sweary.
Boom Blox Bash Party is supposed to be good.
Punch-Out also.

Endless Ocean is a great chillout game, as is World of Goo. Excite
Truck's good for a laugh. Metroid Prime 3 is ok if you like that sort
of thing. Pikmin if you never played it on Cube. Rayman Raving Rabbids
if you have gaming parties and plenty of remotes. And Mario Kart Wii is
decent enough, although the worst of the series.

SMBB got panned in these groups but I thought it was great. Looked
great. Controlled great. Just ignore 97% of the multiplayer.

On the recommendation of this group I bought Kororinpa as it was
supposed to be much better, it went on ebay about a week later, can't
remember why now as it was some time ago but I hated it. SMBBB is a
polished, funny and very uplifting game although if you do get out of
practice, getting back into it again might be difficult! I've never
seen the multiplayer stuff, never bothered with it.
I like kororinpa, although it is short and the graphics are a little
rough compared to SMBB. It arguably does a better job of the "wiimote
controlling a rolling ball" thing than monkeyball. I'd say that all
things considered they both complement each other.

For me SMB was always 98% about the multiplayer. That they managed to
break all of it so spectularly did not go down well with me.

I like this gamecube remake idea especially the Metroid Prime Trilogy :)

Yep may look into it later - Fallout 3 is taking that time slot at the
moment.
I'm somewhat more tolerant of "violence in a violent game" than I am
with bad language to be honest.
If you know your kids you can prepare them/ distance them sufficiently
from the violence that is on the screen. Turning down the volume
somewhat goes a ways to reducing the impact I find.
I still wouldn't play something like Call of Duty 4 with them around but
Halo 3, say, is not the worst.
They are unlikely to go out and blow someone's head off after seeing
that. I know I saw much worse than Halo3 when I were a nipper. An' all
this were fields too.
But they are quite likely to go around with a potty mouth if daddy is
inside sniggering and playing and generally enjoying a game with
unnecessarily bad language in it.

A fair bit less than on-screen gore though I'd wager. I wouldn't let
kids watch horror movies, so I'd regard swearing in a horror game as
irrelevant when it comes to kids as they'd not be hearing the swearing
as it wouldn't be on in the first place!
I don't think people see what goes on in video games or movies and
then try to emulate it but particularly with sensitive people and
kids, it certainly can have an adverse effect.
> I'm somewhat more tolerant of "violence in a violent game" than I am

Personally, I found the original Robocop film to be over-violent and
was quite shocked by it, and I wasn't even a kid at the time.
Violence on-screen is far more serious than swear words in my book.
> If you know your kids you can prepare them/ distance them sufficiently

Hmm, I reckon that game would give many kids some nasty nightmares,
blowing the heads off men and women as they stagger towards you at
speed and all that, I'd probably get nightmares myself! I've only
seen videos of it though, not played it.
> I still wouldn't play something like Call of Duty 4 with them around but

I thought even some of the bits in Twilight Princess were a bit
gratuitous ;-) I think perhaps I empathise with on-screen characters
a bit too much... Certainly for a 38-year-old!
> They are unlikely to go out and blow someone's head off after seeing

No, but it's more the level of anxiety it can introduce, I was a
fairly sensitive lad it has to be said, and I know if I played it when
I was a kid I'd not have slept well for some time.
> But they are quite likely to go around with a potty mouth if daddy is

To me, the language is a very distant second to the on-screen
violence and the atmosphere, not really something I'd let kids get
involved in, even if there was no swearing at all. But then even now
at the age of 38 I boggle at the idea of people wanting to watch
horror movies, even Aliens scares me!

Hehe, was just bumbling around on youtube and found this, very funny
especially at the end!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLY8hnocles
Ah scrub that, I've just read your post properly...
...Which is exactly why I said "if you know your kids..."
Halo 3 is not viewable by every kid, but for some/ most of them perhaps
it is OK.
Then again, for many it would be inappropriate to say the least, I agree.
...Knowing your kids and what they will & won't react badly to is the
important thing. There are very few blanket rules that suit everyone.

Don't wee the bed if you've got an electric blanket.
MP3, with it's smallish areas and constant outside communication, is
rather lacking in the excellent metroid feel though ("all alone in a
vast and mysterious place"), whereas MP1 and MP2 had it in spades.
MP3 feels oddly generic, though technically it's excellent and it's very
polished.
[Also I'm stuck at the damn red-ball boss in MP3 and there seems little
chance of getting past him; god I wish there was some kind of cheat code...]

Not what I've felt, I must say - I rather appreciate not getting lost
quite so much! That can easily be put down to incompetence on my part.
It is generic in that it fits the mould set by MP and MP2 very
smoothly, but it's not like it's a clone of any other game that I can
think of.
>though technically it's excellent and it's very

Above I was referring to the wonderful control scheme for MP3/Wii,
which is about as good as I've ever met for FPS on a console. Having
that on MP and MP2 will be *excellent*.

just getting into this now, and have to agree.
it's a bit like Pikmin in a different skin i suppose, but a charming
little game all the same :)
I recall that being one of the hardest parts of the game, but I think
it only held me back for about 8 tries in total. Don't give up there!
Oddly, the controls are part of what's making this boss so frustrating
for me. Though the wiimote works well for MP in theory, I find in my
case it simply _flakes out_ wayyyy too often -- usually just when things
are a critical point, the game will suddenly stop responding to my
controller movements, and I'll end up getting killed trying to get the
controller to resync!
[Maybe it's due to me waving it about more frantically at such times,
but ... a mass-market video game controller really shouldn't require
excess care to function properly!]
I find myself wishing MP3 supported the old GC control-scheme/controller
as well... It was kinda funky at times too, but seemed more robust than
the wiimote.

Actually blips off, and the game says "controller missing", you mean?
I've only had that trouble with boxing - I think my rechargeables are
a bit off-size, since normal Duracells don't give me that trouble.

Yes, this is probably what I'll do. I never actually finished the GC MP2,
cos I got stuck on a boss for ages (a big robot thing with a flying head)
so the Wiimake might well give me an incentive to try again.
It would be nice of Nintendo to have both MP1 and 2 on the same disc, but
I can't see that happening any time soon.

Using Virtual RISC PC Adjust on an Intel i7 PC
The best of both worlds
No, button presses etc are still recognized, it's just that my
controller movements are suddenly not reflected by the game!
To "resync" it, I need to point it near the center of the screen and
slowly move it around without getting too far off center; at some
point it suddenly "catches" and then starts working normally again.
Of course if it's an action game, by that time I'm usually dead...
I think it's mostly that I have a pretty small living room, there's
only about a 2m x 2m space empty in front of the TV. The wii /
controller-bar combination seems to not work well under such
conditions unless you're very careful, and being careful tends to be
difficult in a heated boss battle...
I think this is a bit unfortunate considering very small living spaces
are not that unusual for Japan, but I guess they did the best they
could.
But I really wish it was possible to use the old GC control scheme
with MP3...

Incidentally, not that I'm claiming any skill with the GC controller

That's pretty odd. I've never had that trouble, and because I play on
my monitor (24" Dell with component input) I'm usually sat less than a
meter away from it - closer than you, I guess, but I don't lose
IR-wiimote movement unless the wiimote is under 2ft from the bar.
You don't have any other IR sources near the screen, do you?
