Anyway, this weekend, I'll be playing:
WoW - I really want to get to level 58. I broke 57 last night, but I seem to
have run out of quests that don't involve instances, and the rest of my guild
are all on the outworld. I'm loathe to pug something like Strat, but I may
have to to get the XP :-/
Hotel Dusk - Best. Game. Ever.
Lost Planet - Shooting stuff is still fun.
Viva Pinata - Haven't played this in ages. I should.
Crackdown Demo - I downloaded this ages ago but never got round to playing
it.

Every day is groundhog day!
Or not. So to celebrate that, I'll play:
Twilight Princess (Wii). I'm in front of the boss door in the Shadow
dungeon. And I didn't pick up the master key. I know where it is
though... So I might just go back, get the key, finish the dungeon and
then the rest of the game in one setting! Hooray!
Wii Sports. I just feel like it at the moment, so I might give it a go
on my own...
Some PS2 game. I really should use my PS2 again for once.
Unfortunately, I can't decide whether I should restart Ico, start
Shadow of the Colossus or play something completely different. And the
end of the weekend, I'll probably haven't played anything on my PS2.
*sigh*
Wii Sports, haven't played for a couple of days so I'll probably be up
in the 40s with the fitness test.

CASTLEVANIA. IT IS THE BEST THING EVER. EVER.
I'm tempted to dig out my NES to play the NES games. Or, I could just play
Akumajou Dracula on my GBA.
Also:
Contact (DS):
I WILL play it some more. I must.
Viva Pinata (360):
I'll have a bit of a play.
Tony Hawk's Project 8 (360):
I doubt I'll be able to beat any goals, but you never know. Wish I could get
to the one in the Slums.

You're at exactly the same point as me, except I thought the "warg rider
rip off scene" was one of the most exciting and dramatic moments in my
gaming life.
Just goes to show, you can't please everyone :-D
So I shall play:
Test Drive Unlimited (360) - Not played in many months, played about 5
hours in the last two days, it's now frustrating because all the
challenges I have left are hard and require cars I don't have, and the
hitchhiker missions are doing my head in. Plus After 25+ hours of total
play I'm still only a third of the way to the 5k achievement. But I've
just discovered how useful the handbrake can be when applied with care.
Lost Planet (360) - I don't like bosses in games. They annoy me.
Need For Speed: Most Wanted (360) - Makes a little Clio feel like that
"thing" that Richard Hammond put into a ditch.
Elite Beat Agents (DS) - Maybe. I'll play for a few minutes, remember
that my slightly broken and misaligned DS makes the slidey bits
impossible, then scream and turn it off.
Mario & Luigi: PIT (DS) - Because my MWC says so.
F.E.A.R. (360) - As above.
And if I'm feeling masochistic I might start GeOW on Insane.

Let me guess, you're on mission 3 or 4?
It's actually better in Insane as the AI is generally better for all the
NPCs and it isn't actually as much of a leap in difficulty as you would
imagine.

Thank god for that. I would've enjoyed the game much more were it not
for Dom being a complete pillock. In the last boss, which took me a
good 20+ attempts, as soon as the cut-scene was over he would run
straight at RAAM, and be down somewhere in the middle of the level that
I couldn't safely get to within about 5 seconds.

Don't get me wrong, my heart was pounding after it and I loved the set

it without dying, well except for falling off the bridge doing the joust
for the first time. Skinned the fat get the second time round.

The mission 3 and 4 boss fights are particular unfair. Mission 5, though, I

I did mission 3 first go, but it took me a few restarts to do that
fecking wasp. I especially hate boss fights where you have to ATTACK
THEIR WEAK SPOT FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE. The mission 3 one was ok as just
hitting it anywhere did the same amount of damage. I hated that worm,
hitting tiny little dots that were constantly moving with a rocket
launcher that took an hour to reload after each shot. The wasp was
annoying but not as much as the worm.

You do know you didn't have to kill the worm, right? You can just outrun it.
Provided you're not repapering, it should be do-able in a weekend. If

Anyway, this weekend, I will probably be playing....
Just Cause (360) As part of my mission to actually give some play time
to the plethora of games I bought last year and gave scant attention to,
I shall be playing this. It isn't a chore, either. It's good fun to hang
out on this huge island, just farting around, and most of the missions
are quite easy. I may actually finish it, as well.
Oh, if anybody is interested, I have spare copy for sale (I was so busy
for most of last year that I was ordering stuff from all over the place
and ordered multiple copies of quite a few things last year - this one,
I forgot to send back!)

Is there a way to play co-op on Live but get achievements on both

there a way?

NFS: Most Wanted (360)
I'm finding this surprisingly enjoyable. I remember the demo *really*
rubbing me up the wrong way, but I can't remember what it was that bothered
me. Whatever it was, I've either learnt to ignore it, or it's absent from
the full game. It's nothing spectacular, mind - just simple, super-fast,
arcade racing fun.
I'm only an hour or two into it and currently challenging number 12 on the
list, so I expect it'll not take too long to get through unless it toughens
up a bit.
Dynasty Warriors 5 (360)
I shall probably play through the remaining scenarios in empire mode over
the weekend. I'm buggered if I can work out what the criteria are for
unlocking the 'special' battles (maybe I *do* need some knowledge of Ancient
Chinese history). If none appear by the time I get to the end of the last
campaign, it's off to Gamefaqs for me...
Marble Blast Ultra (360)
After last weekends complete non-starter of an attempt to play some
multiplayer, I'm determined to have another go.
Zelda: TP (Wii)
I *will* get of my arse and play this at least up to the second dungeon. I'm
in serious danger of my 7 year old son overtaking me now, so if I don't get
round to playing it, I'll have to ban him from doing so!
Also, no doubt, some of the usual weekend Live staples - RS:V, PES6, COD3,
TH'E, etc.
Chris.
GT: SomethingWitty
Well, the gameplay in SotC is a different animal to ICO (I forget the
ending of that game TBH). I'm not keen on boss battles either but SotC
feels different. The game doesn't make you frustrated with each battle
like you would with a normal game, in fact you look forward to them.
Honestly, you owe it to yourself to try it for a couple of hours at
least. It's brilliant the way that the game plays with your emotions,
the presentation is sublime and the ending is superb (to put your mind
at rest). In fact it's the only game I've ever played where I sat and
grinned all the way through the end credits.
An outright classic IMHO.

The ending to Ico is the greatest moment of videogaming ever devised.
It's just the bit immediately prior to the ending, the boss battle, is
the most rubbish and uninspired bit of gaming I've ever done.

It does. Bearing in mind at the moment you need to win about 2 races
and get a few thousand bounty, by the last dude, you need ten million
bounty, about 20 races and the milestones are stuff like $1m CTS, jump
20 police roadblocks in a run, tag 30 police cars in a run, and still
get out of that run without being caught.

Ah I remember now it's the beam of light thing (IIRC) - yup it's crap.
SotC is *nothing* like that however. The boss battles are the levels
if you will. Getting to a boss is simply a matter of travelling there.
You probably know this already but if not. Each boss is a giant, you
have to actually climb all over them to attack their weakspots for
massive damage. It's not a case of some cheap tactic, every battle is
epic, difficult but ultimately fair.
You really should try it. If you have a PS2 around I couldn't think of
a better reason to fire it up.
My PS2 is currently boxed up in my wardrobe, waiting for me to get
around to selling it. The only thing that's currently stopping me is
the thought of me not having bought a PS3 by the time God Of War 2

I find comments regarding PoR being hard kind of odd, because I found it
to be probably the easiest of recent Castlevania games. Hell, I think
its the only Castlevania I've managed to finish since SotM other than
Lament of Innocent, due to me always getting def up with not being able
to beat the final bosses.
I completed Dawn of Sorrow, but I'm finding PoR really, really hard.
It's really putting me off.

Not a lot, Nothing actually.
Hotel Dusk (DS) turned up today, so I might play some of that as well.
I'll probably have another attempt at beating that Greeneye thing in
Lost Planet (360) too.
It had it's ups and downs, but definitely more ups.
I couldn't get used to the food and the beer's really expensive, but there
were a lot of crazy people out there especially during the cricket and the
hostels I stayed in along the east coast ranged from brilliant to crap. It
also rained a lot too, especially in Cairns where the wet season's well
under way.
I also managed to get stung by a jellyfish on Christmas Day which led to an
allergic reaction causing my leg and foot muscles to seize up and left me in
chronic pain for nearly four weeks. One hell of a downer if there ever was
one!
Definitely glad to be back in the UK though - the games are cheaper here for
one thing! Typical prices for PS2 games in Oz seem to range from £40-£50,
and those were the discounted ones...

In the last week or two. The initial announcement was in a PWB thread around
new year, I think. Something to do with his kids being eaten by insects or
something.
According to said Canadian girl, Phil doesn't count and it's some other
groundhog called Willie from Ontario that's the real one, or something. Either
way, the whole thing seems extremely silly, but a very good excuse to get
drunk, so at least one of my several pints tonight was raised to all
groundhogs, everywhere.
The ants are the most vicious though - even the tiniest of them, just over
1mm long seemed to have no trouble crawling onto my feet and trying to bite
skin off. It was a great pleasure stamping on those little f*ckers!
Don't even get me started on the flies in NSW that tried to crawl into every
orifice in my face! I found myself constantly trying to shoo the little
bastards off only for them to repeatedly come back and try again, usually in
groups of three or four.
There was an incredibly annoying TV ad over there for an insect repellant,
showing an annoying wife and husband (and kid, but I don't think he actually
said anything) having a conversation in their back yard that sort of ran:
H: Have I got it on?
W: You've got it on.
H: Are you sure it's on? I can't smell it.
W: Are you being pestered by insects?
H: No.
W: Then you've got it on.
The advert was so effective that I can't even remember what the product was.
All I do remember was wanting to kick them in the face, but hostel rules
prevented me from damaging the TV!

Groundhog.org is the official website for Punxsatawny, Pennsylvania and is
indeed the same groundhog day event covered in the motion picture starring

equally to all groundhogs, every city with a groundhog mascot playfully
engages in a good-natured rivalry. The event I attended is the one
depicted in the movie.

What? Like getting fat and eroding your stomach lining?
Perhaps not the former, since it's the diet variety. The latter,
certainly. There's a trick to making a certain gelatin dessert where one
substitutes Diet Mountain Dew for the water in equal proportions.
Well, you did ask. :)

Bur Dominos Pizza tastes bloody awful over there, as do the Baked Beans,

Paul.
The food, I just couldn't get used to. Even getting away from Pizza
Hut/Dominos/McDonalds/Hungry Jacks (Burger King), a lot of the stuff I'm
used to here like Heinz soups, baked beans etc, tasted very different over
there (or had no flavour at all), although "English recipe" versions were
available, if the local Coles supermarket bothered stocking them!
Paul.
Seconded. And don't start me with the "KFC" :-/ What the hell is
"chicken salt" anyway?
Normal iodized table salt does not come from the chickens, but from
natural mines or from chemical manufacturing. In the case of chicken salt,
chickens are poured into large vats to allow for natural evaporation,
which leaves heterogenous but aromatic salt behind. This salt is treasured
by gourmet chefs the world over for its coarse texture and its natural
flavor which is evocative of the wide expanse of chickens that separate
the continents.

Actual proper pubs are still usually reasonably priced: Sinclairs is still
under 2quid a pint, and I think the Lass might still be sensibly priced. The
Marble pubs are okay if you drink the Marble beers, as are any Holts or Hydes
pubs (and JW Lees, but you wouldn't want to drink their beer). But any chain
pubs - other than Wethertramps - and any bar-style place and you're paying
at least 2.50 for a pint of anything, rising to over 3quid for a "premium"
beer (ie, anything you'd actually want to drink).
It's a bit depressing, really. My first pint of beer in Manchester (just
under 10 years ago now...) cost me 95p.
That was very, very surreal.
Excellent.
