DOA XBV (XB)
My girlfriend was away at the weekend, so I spent many hours playing
this I'm afraid! I also showed it to a friend of mine and she's totally
addicted to collecting all the swimsuits, and is going to buy the game
herself. I'm just totally addicted to right-trigger, and have no shame
of this fact :D
Bangai-O (DC)
I honestly think this is one of the best games I own.
I'm on level 39 at the moment. HOW EXCITING IS THAT! I'll be really
upset when I do finish Bangai-O... I've been playing it for about 3
years and it always allows me to justify keeping my DC with zero guilt.
I have Bangai-O love.
Jet Set Radio Future (XB)
In a direct offshoot from having an unstable PC (see 'want') I have
cracked out this old number. I got JSRF free when I bought the Xbox, and
thought I'd played it quite a lot, but when I booted up the disk I was
embarrased to see the savegame only had 1hr30min saved. I deleted that,
started over, and have now clocked somewhere around 15 hours in this
game. Tons of fun! I like how the music playlist gradually grows as you
play the game - unlocking new music tracks.
Space Channel Five (GBA-SP)
On loan from a friend. I'm quite impressed how close it is to the DC
version. It's just as fun, but easier to play, because it fits in my
pocket. Mini Ulala. In my pocket. Yum.
Wario Ware Twisted (GBA-SP)
Collecting Crowns. 90% too easy. 10% perfect.
Lego Star Wars (XB)
I don't own this, but have been playing it around a friends' house. This
is good, because I can just enjoy it for what it is, fun, without
feeling guilty that it's quite a repetitive collect-a-thon, as I would
if I owned the game myself.

My PC to work properly
Or maybe not? My PC is very unstable at the moment - I can run simple
tasks (browse web, even multitrack audio) for hours with complete
stability. As soon as I stress the CPU (play a game, or even visit a
Flash website) my +12v line goes through the roof and my PSU starts to
smell burney. Play any longer, and it's down to the shops for another
PSU.
This has the result of me using my PC for work only, and my consoles for
games, which has had the knock-on effect of making me enjoy my consoles
much more than usual and dig out things like JSRF.
So, actually, I think this is a good thing, and I'm not even sure if I
want to fix the problem any time soon!

I often do this. I thought I'd played loads of GT4, but when I loaded it
up I was, er, 2.7% done. And I was sure I'd finished my US Katamari
Damacy as well as my Japanese one, but I'm only on Star Four.
Timesplitters Future Perfect (XBOX) - Oh dear. It's brilliant. The
levels have bags of character as do the, er, characters, there's lots of
different things to do, it looks lovely and controls well... but there's
one fatal flaw: a lack of checkpoints. I've given up in frustration on
the game twice now. If I [DIE IN ANNOYING SPOILERY PLACE ON MORE TIME]
this game will go into the bin and be remembered by me as an object
lesson in how to ruin a wonderful game. Course, I could just drop it
down to easy...
Makai Kingdom (PS2) - Glad now that I skipped Pucelle and Brave. Having
great fun with this now I'm (mostly) past the confusion stage. Not
progressing much, just buggering about testing theories and having fun.
Which is kind of the point, I guess.
Espgaluda (PS2) - This is a great shooter. Really great. One day I might
see level three!
GTA: SA (PS2) - No missions, just cop chases and general pissing about
in fast cars and planes. Lots of it, actually. I've got a girlfriend now
who lets me keep my stuff if I get busted, I'm trying to do that instead
of getting wasted if I can't actually get away.
Meteos (DS) - Little bursts of Deluge.
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (MOB) - Excellent for being stuck in
roadworks on the bus.
Also tried out some other games, like Katamari Damacy, GT4 and Castle of
Shikigami 2, but not enough to really put them in the play section.

Mine's been behaving since I reformatted, but probably because I've not

FEAR (PC) - Demo ace. Want full game.
Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (XBOX) - See above. Will buy from Game,
though, as rampaging around the place might get boring within ten days.
Usual DS games.
Not to buy too many PSP games on UK launch day. I hope I've learned my
lesson from buying the awful Atari collection on DS launch day, just
because I could finally buy DS games in the shops.
Burnout Revenge to have fixed Crash mode high score tables, because
despite getting highly annoyed with Burnout 3 it was fun for a good few
hours so I will be buying it.

America's 10 Most Wanted (PS2) - Got it for a couple of quid or so ages
ago to laugh at. So I copied it to my hard drive and put it on for a
quick go. And laughed at it. I might actually play it again, mind. The
'best' bit isn't that infinite enemies respawn directly behind you, but
that the game turns into an absolutely terrible fighting game when you
meet a boss. That's a lovely touch.
Copying games to PS2 hard drive. Got 49 on there now and still could
have copied more. But I got bored and left such 'classics' as Twisted
Metal Black and Star Wars Racer Revenge off. If I do ever feel like
playing them I've got the discs after all. An awful lot of my old PS2
games are getting very cloudy now, though, which is worrying. They
seemed to get read okay by my PC, though.
Lumines (PSP) - The UK Resistance love for this game inspired me to
switch my PSP on for the first time in months and my word, it is
amazingly good. I beat my high score then immediately cocked up as the
game sped up to insane levels but I will be back. And the music is
brilliant.
Pikmin 2 (GC) - Only had a quick go at this but seems to be great. The
extra player helps enormously but the lack of time limit removes some of
the urgency from the play. Still, it's supposed to be much bigger than
the first one so that's OK I suppose.

I never really got into Espgaluda in the same was as Dodonpachi DOJ, but

I should be getting this as soon as Play Asia can find me a Korean copy

than Japanese version and one language I can't understand is much like

I really want shooters like this to be included as part of the Xbox

Well I thought many Korean versions had japanese in them anyway. I don't
know why, that doesn't make any sense.
And japanese is easier to not understand because really those katakana

Before I knew any of that stuff Japanese games looked so alien but, for

are actually in english. or 'engrish' rather. It's surprising just how
much of japanese games are in english, even though they do a good job of
disguising that with their squiggles.

Rome Total War: Was on holiday last week and Medieval Total War was the

Sparta being my price catch so far.
Battlefield 2: Just got this before I went off and boy is it fun. I

Timesplitters Future Perfect : Excellence - the kind of game that I

Pfffft, you should play at least Brave at some point (they made far
better use of the gridless system in that game - I particularly liked
the slidey stages which everyone else no doubt hated). Skipping
Pucelle is far enough, I suppose, being rather dated now, though

game based on Gundam SEED (Destiny)), but the actual game looks like

Alpha 3 (PS2) - a 3D SRPG featuring characters and mecha from more
anime and games than you can shake a stick at (stuff like Virtual On,
assorted Macross show (yes, inc. Basara Nekki), Gundams, Evangelion,

attack animations on that as well.

Customs and the Royal Mail. I don't mind paying VAT, that's fine, but
why do they have to make it such a pain? Not only do customs hold on to

I'm shocked that you haven't completed it yet after all these years, talk

That was really horrible until you figure out the exact time to strike
(when the bird pulls its head back, IIRC) and since the birds attack one at
a time it's just a case of steady-away.

After the sniping section up the top of the water tower and after the
Deerhaunter.
I know that would mean having checkpoints close together, but after
sections like that I think you need them.
(Of course, I might not have felt the need so badly if I hadn't started
both sections with so little health.)
The birds are infuriating until you suss out the trick. Then they become
extremely easy! Just get set up with a good camera angle, wait for them
to approach, and strike them as they pull back to strike you.
They don't respawn, so once you've killed them, it's relax-o-time.
Is it really that good. I must have picked this game up about 20 times
and still haven't bought it yet. I despised the previous iterations with
a passion. That, allied to the fact that I have about 50 games to play
properly on all the formats means that buying another one at full price
is not high on the agenda. I must rationalise my gamesplaying and my
collection. MUST PLAY MORE GAMES!

It's crap and brill in equal measures. There's almost no game in there,
but it's a nice sunny place to chill out and collect stuff for when
you've had a hard day and don't want the challenges of 'proper'
games.
I'll probably tire of it after a few more days, but am enjoying it

It also amuses me that Right Trigger is the camera zoom button.
The zoom is focused right around either the boobs or the pants of
your avatar, and you actually have to be a bit nifty with the
analogue stick if you want to zoom in on their faces. So I normally
don't bother with the analogue stick.
he speaketh the truth. It's all about rhythm.
I'm at the Deerhaunter bit now and just switched off as he seems a bit
of a bastard. There are a couple of things that are flies in the
ointment and the difficulty setting isn't really an issue yet... but
getting stuck because a barrel is partly blocking a door or using the
arm thingy and it dropping the shell through the blast door so you can't
trigger it is bloody annoying.
Still good fun and if memory serves me correctly, I had to drop to easy
on one of the levels on TS 2 because it got stupidly hard (the Harry

Backtracking to find stuff works. Some of the levels you breeze through
missing half the rooms and corridors. I'm sure I missed a stack of stuff
in that Scottish castle.

Yes. I hate the previous ones, too, but RE4 is THAT GOOD in caps and
everything.
He's not very hard, but I started that section with very little health
and he normally hit me a couple of times so I was left with hardly
anything and then died and kept having to redo the section over and
over and over... until I turned off.
GT4 (PS2) - I've had several RUF BTRs in my garage for some time. They
look suspiciously like Porsches to me, but apparently they're not.
Honest. They may be getting on a bit now, but their lardy arses can be
made to slide around corners quite nicely. If I tried this in real-life
I would possibly die of violent high-speed crashing several times, but
in GT4 all is well.

That new Timesplitters game sounds like a possible future perfect
purchase. But I still haven't finished the original Halo, so it can
wait. Unless it's better, of course, but how can I know?

Forza - I do have some respect for this. I really do. But ultimately
it's just too unattractive, and the truth is that we have no future
together. Will be traded in for something that doesn't make me feel so
bloody shallow.

I think you can attach the value of the customs charge worth of stamps on
the card and send it back, and then they'll redeliver.
But I don't think there's room for £10 worth of stamps on such a card :)
it is really awful though, especially seeing as they open from 9:30am to
12:30pm in my nearest one.

You can, yes. I suppose it's quaint, but not entirely practical. I may as
well pick the package up if I have to go to the Post Office anyway to buy
all the stamps.
I don't really understand why they won't bring the packages out if there's
a customs fee anyway. Or why they take at least two days to deliver the
card telling you when it was that they failed to bring the package.
I shall try that then cheers.
Any other bits as annoying as that because it just didn't sit well when
the rest of it seems so intent on making the game as stress free as
possible without ever seeming a pushover.
Mate - in Yoshi's name, trust us on this one.
It's the second best game on the current generation. Full stop.

Put it this way: I've played through the story mode of T:FP twice, and
I've still not got to the end of Halo.

Seems to be a common problem. General consensus seems to be to
completely uninstall your GFX and reinstall with the latest drivers.

Is this the Mesh? I'm surprised as they are usually very good.
Haven't had many problems with mine. (The bundled DVD/CD burning
software was rubbish and kept on crashing but I replaced it with Nero
and it works fine now.)

I sold this two years ago for an astronomical price. Really pretty
game, but couldn't get past the start.

They do sometimes go for not-too-unreasonable prices on eBay in Buy It Now
sales. The auctions tend to get insanely high, though. I've been watching
out for a copy for a week or two, and got one for under £50 a few days ago
using Buy It Now. I should be able to make more than that back if I sell
it on via an auction.
I don't recall anything as bad as that level, but there are some tricky
bits to come, just not as annoying. I hated that level, not just because of
the birds but the amount of backtracking that needed to be done if you made
a silly mistake and fell off the wall. I remember it (possibly wrongly,
never trust my brain) as the Shittest Level In The Whole Game.. apart from
that (seemingly) infinite-respawn boss battle, but once i'd figured out the
walljump>stab>cheesey move i did that for every fight and the game was much
less of a chore.
I just wish they'd make a version with zero fighting, all platform. That
would be ace.
. and one other thing, if you keep your moves to a minimum and with very
little travel on the pad most times you get knocked off, or fall, from the
wall you'll catch hold of it and you can time your climb back up if there's
a bird hanging around.
I finished story mode today - off work for two weeks. Only had to replay
a few bits more than twice. All in all it was bloody great if a bit
short.
It's also worth remembering (because I kept forgetting like the fish
brained twattock I am) that you can use your arm thingy to attract
health packs to you rather than wade in for them if they are in an area
with loads of enemies.
Yet they seemed to have gone in exactly the wrong direction for the
sequel. FOOLS.
But yeah that worked and it's back to being grateness again. Ta.
I tried at least ten times before giving up there.

I will if I ever see any. But I'm having pains in the back of my right
hand this week, so I'm off gaming for the week so I can't try again.

I played a couple of levels of that hateful sequel and i never want to see
it again.

There is! You can get £5 stamps!

Fairy nuff, I did wonder if that was the case.
I wouldn't trust sending Ł5 worth like that anyway. It's bound to pass
some sticky fingered people on its way back to the depot :)
Yeah, but it's not like real money, is it? I mean, you can't pay for a
pint with a Ł5 stamp, can you? And you can't change it back into money,
so unless you actually want to send something which costs a fiver to
post, nicking stamps isn't going to be very lucrative.

I don't really think people would 'nick' it as such, but also I don't think
people would treat it like something that was worth over a tenner.
Irrational I guess, to think that way, but it's not like Royal Mail have
done much to install much faith.
Muhh, ITYM *instil* much faith, dude. It's not like they come round to
fit you a wodge of faith, ask for a cup of tea and then piss off on a
fag break.

Yes it's not install. Because you're right, they don't fit me a wodge of
faith. I think they just have the tea and fags.
Actually that's not even a lie. For a period the only time i ever saw our
postman was when he had something to sign, or when he was on the corner of
the road rolling up.
I still occasionally go back to it, I'm due a revisit...
I am always aghast how most people seemed to think it had changed
for the better. I inevitably bin it because I've fought 25 enemies,
climbed a ledge, couldn't see whether to jump, and then jumped
off into the void.
15 times. Different jump parts, each time.
Oh yeah, and having to kill that bird-bloke three times is just
wonderful. 15 times....
I never take games back to the shop. But this one. I think
I have to to stop me thinking that I will play some more. Its
been the most annoying game that I've stubbornly played since
Mafia (PC), a masterclass of bad gameplay...

Tried all that without any luck. In this case most of my troubles are
being caused by a hardware related problem.
The most common crash i'm getting is the computer reboots, the monitor
goes into standby and stays in standby until i force a hard reset.
After the last crash, I VNC'd into the computer (thanks to
www.RealVNC.com) and saw a message, I wouldn't have seen otherwise,
saying that one of my two graphics cards had been removed from the PC
and therefore SLI was disabled. I checked Device Manager and it was only
reporting one of my 6800GT cards as being installed.
The main suspicion is that the PSU is duff, but it could also be a
problem with the card or motherboard.
The post office will refund unused stamps.

To dodgy postmen? :-P
The question was "but it's not like real money, is it?" to which the
answer is "No, in the same way that a guaranteed cheque, postal order,
or credit card isn't real money".
