Shock! Some good pubs news.

apparently The Sun at Leintwardine, a famous classic unspoilt pub has
not only been saved from the risk of closure, change of use, etc, but
the consortium involved in buying it includes the chap behind the
excellent Hobson's Brewery.

This takes me back 25+ years to when my wife and I decided to visit the Sun
one afternoon when we were in the area.
We had seen the pub as no1 in a booklet on the most unspoiled pubs in Britain.
We were the only customers in the pub at the time.
Flossie served us the beer from casks in her larder (That's what it looked like!).
She then sat with us in the lounge & thoroughly quizzed us on what we were up to.
PS Has anyone still got a copy of that booklet?

The list plays a prominent role in "The Longest Crawl" - an excellent
book by Ian Marchant.
(the curious tale of Sam Smith's gets good mention too - allegedly
they own the Isle of Jura!)

I picked up a copy in the late 1990s in a pub somewhere in SE London,
that also had a bundle of SPBW leaflets too - I can't remember the
pub, sorry (drink may have been involved).
I finally got to one of the pubs that some think should be added to
the list - The Three Stags' Heads, (Wardlow Mires, Derbyshire) a few
weeks back & I'd certainly add it to my own version of this list.
(only opens weekends)
I've always enjoyed visiting another pub on the list - Tinky's/ Turf
Tavern, Bloxwich, nr Walsall.
I've also heard good things about a Robinson's pub, The Harrington
Arms, Gawsworth, (Bosley/Macc way).

The Harrington Arms remains an excellent pub with most of its original
layout intact but it has been brought into the modern world and thus
wouldn't qualify for a list of totally unspoilt pubs. It has won a local
CAMRA Pub of the Year award in the last couple of years.

Bit of an odd video for the Shrops Star to have up - not really very
related to the pub.

I've heard that the Three Tuns has reopened, but is no longer unspoilt -
heck the place hadn't had any maintenance in Lucy's lifetime! Ah yes -
it's a fancy restaurant now.

The Cider House is closed, I think I heard due to illness of one of the
owners? it's uncertain if the other partner will carry on.
There have been a few that JWC (AFAIK) missed, but they're also gone -
Cupid's Hill Tavern, nr Grosmont, Gwent, and the Hop Pole, Risbury
(Bert's) outside Leominster.
The Plough in Upper Chapel (Powys) has been painted outside, so may not be
so plain inside now.
