Cheers, Phil.
Can't remember the name, but opposite the Europa Hotel there's a great
pub, owned by the National Trust, that had a good selection of
handpumped beers last time I was in Belfast (about 6 years ago).
Yes, I think you're thinking of The Crown. A great pub indeed, but last time
I was there ( also about 6 years ago! ) it had no real ale so we just had a
quick Guiness and left it to the tourists. Hmm, I'll ckeck it out tomorrow
anyway. Thanks for the reply!

we were in the Crown one year ago, there were three real ales (by local
Whitewater brewery) - which for Belfast can be considered a good
selection. One beer (Crown Ale) was brewed (or at least, labelled!) for
the pub.
Also the John Hewitt near the Cathedral is a good pub, with a couple of
real ales by local breweries.

Well I went to The Crown but couldn't get near the bar. It was heaving.
So back to Wethers for nice Irish stew and excellent pint of Titanic Black
Ice.
From there I walked across the city to the John Hewitt. Really good pub with
accoustic guitar open mic night on, (Mondays)
Had a couple of not bad pints of Hilden Poetic Justice Irish Ale. They also
had a chocolate stout on.
Will probably check out McHughs near the Customs House tonight. Anyone been
there?

Nice pint of Whitewater Copperhead Ale in the deserted McHughs. In fact at
approx 9.30pm, I was the only person in there! The landlord offered me a
taste before I bought it. Am struggling to find any more real ale pubs which
is sad for a city as big as Belfast. Looks like back to Wethers tonight. By
the way, Wetherspoons 1.50/pint, The John Hewitt and McHughs, 3.40/pint.
Quality, about the same in all 3 pubs. Do you think that there would be at
least some people in McHughs if they put the prices down a bit?
