Skate wings - amonia

I just had some grilled skate wing. Bought fresh from the supermarket and grilled at home.
It had a strong smell of ammonia.
I have just learnt that Skate are a member of the Shark family. Shark and Skate urinate through their skin hence the smell.
Has anyone else heard of this?

Watery Eggs

Slightly o/t.
One of our chickens appears to be laying eggs that have a particularly
watery white. They seem to cook ok, and tempted though I was to throw
it away when I first saw it, I don't appear to have made myself sick,
so I'm guessing they are 'ok.
But is it a sign of something being missing from the chickens' diet?... more »

Cooking pasta in sauce

I suppose this is a bad idea is it?
Or is it just another " conventional cooking " myth.
If I'm simmering my tomato sauce for 15 minutes, why not!
The pasta can then absorb the flavours in the sauce rather than
tasting of.... boiled water?
Give me one good reason...
