I'm starting to buy into the moving air theory. I was cutting an
onion today and my eyes started to sting. If I'd let it go any longer
I would have been crying, but I turned on my fan (extractor?) and
started the air moving. I work at a peninsula and the stove is behind
me, but the fan stopped my eyes from stinging and everything went back
to normal. Now I'm wondering if an open window would work too.

It depends how much air movement comes from the window and how cold it
is. If I open the window I would freeze!

I tried it this weekend as well. It did make a difference, as long as I was
in the right place. That is, with the onions directly between me and the
extractor. I'll be testing further ...

Only if the air was being sucked out, rather than just blown around. it
might make it worse, depending on the weather.
