Update-removing TRV
|
| |
Update on 'Removing TRV' post from November. Many thanks to Harry Bloomfield & Andy Barron for the hex key tips. It was indeed a hexagon as I found when I cleared all the crap out of it. Pin released & lubricated, rad now works a treat. Thanks

Gritters grip
|
| |
<not a serious question> I was wondering... How do gritting lorries get grip? Almost by default, they are travelling along roads which need grit or salt and (this is the daft bit) the grit is shed behind them. I envisage a team of two workers, standing on a platform built onto the front of the truck, shovelling grit/salt under the wheels as it goes,... more »

TOT about driving conditions the week
|
| |
I have to travel from Preston Lancs. to Portsmouth to bring my wife back home. I have until Friday night to get her back. Due to the severe weather we are experiencing and the short time I have to prepare, can anyone recommend a web site that will be up to date, quite quickly, on road conditions and closures due to the weather... more »

FW100 Weather Compensation Controller
|
| |
I'm thinking of installing an FW100 Weather Compensation Controller to replace an 'Eberle Intelligent Thermostat 2' programmable roomstat. Anyone know if it's suitable for use with a WB 24Ri system boiler and if the thermostat element (I assume there's a roomstat included in addition to the 'programmable indoor unit') would be a simple replacement for the... more »

Thermostat - faulty ?
|
| |
I think that my boiler's thermostat might be faulty - the oil-fired boiler is in a cupboard off the utility room and the thermostat is in the hall. Noticed about a week ago that the radiators were only warm when the thermostat was turned up to about 20. Turned it up to 25 and all was well. Today the same thing happened again, but turning it up to 27 has got... more »

Which silicone sealant???
|
| |
Ok probably a dumb question, but how do you choose the "right" sealant for the job? If I understand correctly, Low modulus requires little effort to move, ie very flexible. High modulus being the opposite is quite stiff. Acetoxy cure is quick to cure but does not stick as well to some surfaces. Neutral cure is slower to cure but sticks like **it to a blanket.... more »

Snowmen and DIY
|
| |
I'm stuck at home today - did get to work, but couldn't get in the car parks due to other vehicles getting stuck and didn't want to chance staying in case I couldn't leave later. Anyway, I enjoyed a bit of time with the kids making a snowman. Sticks for arms we could find, a carrot for the nose, but coal for eyes and buttons is in pretty short supply and we made... more »

Weather Compensation?
|
| |
Hi all Can anyone explain the purpose of this? If you set the stat to 19c or whatever, doesn't the heating system simply try to attain this figure regardless of what's going on outside? Phil
