I've searched Google groups on this without a specific answer to my
question, so I'll ask directly.

I need to cover an area equavalent to three or four 8x4 (ft) sheets
(its a big shower area) and then tile it afterwards. As far as I can
see, Aquapanel is major expensive (more so than Marine Ply), so what
are the pros and cons of using Marine Ply instead of Aquapanel ? I
know that Aquapanel can be directly tiled, but Marine ply needs a
primer of some sort (primer paint or PVA), but apart from that is
there anything else ?

For the walls and ceiling of a shower room that's going to be tiled I used
ordinary plasterboard, with no ill effects. I built it about 20 years ago.
Of course you need to seal where the shower tray meets the wall carefully.

WBP (Water/Boil proof) Ply is also acceptable, slightly different
grade to marine ply, I think marine is suitable to be completly
submerged in water, WBP is not, however the tiles + waterproof tile
adhesive creates a waterproof barrier. Still need a PVA/Water mix to
cover it though (helps the tiles stick!)
