IBM 8025 crash
It looked like it had crashed. It was sitting in a side road, in Central London, in the gutter, with a few other ancient bits of office hardware. It did cross my mind to rescue it, but on a closer look, there wasn't much inside, and the side panel was missing :O) --

Rogues gallery for AGP cards.
I'm trying to identify an AGP card that is fully enclosed in an aluminium shell (with twin fans), there are no external markings whatsoever - there's nothing that amounts to a model number with the shell removed, but it has a large Nvidia FX chip under the main heatsink. As well as the regular VGA... more »

Assuming a 20 pin ATX PSU counts as vintage.......................
Once or twice I've got away with splicing the extra 4 pin block onto the existing wires of a 20 pin PSU, so what's to stop me hotwiring the 24 pin connector on the print side of the MOBO? I could've sworn I had a spare 24 pin ATX PSU - But some inconsiderate git seems to have "borrowed" it!... more »

28C040 Flash ROM from old AT boards.
A while ago I sorted through the tea chest full of old PC boards and found numerous boards had flash ROM onboard. Before scrapping the tattier examples, I harvested any flash ROMs there were. Unfortunately (so I am told) these ROMs can't just be written to like a standard static RAM - also unfortunately, I've been unable to find any... more »

Nascom 2 and Tatung Einstein
I wonder if there are any owners of any of these two machines here with an interest in sharing knowledge and experiences. I have very recently been fortunate to acquire an example of each of them and both are in working order; the Nascom just needing the video 'snow-plough' modification. The Nascom 1 was the first computer I built in the late 70s quickly... more »

Byte magazine.
Just had a read through the wikipedia page, and although I had half an eye on the TV, I couldn't find much if any mention of Steve Ciarcia. I found an online repository of Byte magazines - from the early days there's very few missing issues, but the collection seems to get increasingly gappy... more »

PC-XT FDD BIOS.
Does the 3.5" MSDOS5.0 install set have a bootstrap loader that the XT BIOS can read, or do I have to obtain a DOS5 set on 5.25" 360k's? Thanks.
