3 routes to 64
Three ways to boot the OS X 10.6 64-bit kernel: [1] Hold down the 6 and 4 keys when booting. The effect is temporary. I'm not sure exactly when you have to hold the two keys down, so I keep them held down until the login screen shows. [2] Add a key/value pair to this file: /Library/Preferences/SystemCon figuration/com.apple.Boot.plis t... more »

USB Flash Drive Power?
I have a couple of Lexar FireFly flash drives that I've been happy with. I wanted another to put the OS X 10.6 installer on and decided to go with a Lexar VE this time as the other one was out of stock. When I plugged it into the keyboard I was suprised to be told there was insufficient power for it.... more »

Quicktime bookmarking/track marking within file
Afternoon, Is it possible to put a single audio file within a QuickTime .mov and mark it at certain points, so that an effect akin to track marks on a CD is produced? I'd like to add metadata to those marks as well. Cheers,

attn zoara - Helvetica ironies continue
<[link]> A tattoo of "I <3 Helvetica". Written in a font that isn't Helvetica, probably Arial. The top of the t in Helvetica doesn't have a slope on it, and the a has a much longer tail.

QuickTime Stream: Embed a player in a web page?
Howdy. Not strictly Mac-related, but the server is Snow Leopard with QTSS; so - How can I embed a player of some sort in a web page, that plays some RTSP streams, without the user having to open the stream with software that may (or may not) be installed on their machine? Cheers,

Cinema display - way too bright
Macbook running SL with 24 inch Apple cinema display in extended desktop mode. We had a power cut yesterday and since the power resumed the cinema display is way, way too bright. The buttons on the side of the unit no longer have any effect and when I shut down the machine the cinema display shows a very bright... more »

yo all Is anyone using this program? It's a year since I have. The auction ends at about 8.20pm. I have clicked on 'place snipe' and put a figure in. Do I have to do anything else? Thanks (my annual attempt to use eBay before I give up in fury for another year)

Recover files from dead 12" Powerbook
I've been asked to help recover some files from a dead 12" aluminium Powerbook. The Powerbook's hard disk is OK, and the battery is fine, but it can't be charged or powered on because the battery is dead, and the charging socket is knackered. What's the best way to go about this? I suppose I need to get the HD out? Do I need special screwdrivers? And is... more »

iPhone Battery Packs
I use my iPhone a lot whilst at work - and often in low-signal areas, which tends to drain the battery quickly. On a good day, I drive between several sites, so get a chance to charge it up in the car. On a bad day, I'll be in one site all day, which kills my battery. Has anyone tried any of the add-on battery packs out there? - I fancy a... more »
