Starting about Tuesday, iPlayer Downloader (iPD) started playing up,
then having checked MacUpdate yesterday, iPD 3.5 was released and
according to the release notes, "to combat changes at the BBC end".

The trouble is, I'm still getting 'The requested programme cannot be
downloaded' message when trying to download any TV or Radio streams.

Is anyone else getting this with iPD 3.5?

3.5 was released in September, to combat changes the BBC made in early
September.

*Not* the changes the BBC made this week :-(

The iPlayer Grabber & Downloaders authors seem to have not noticed the
latest changes :-((

I think it would be possible to merge the new iplayer-dl scripts into
at least iPlayer Grabber, but I haven't tried it yet.

I just did that, and iPlayer Grabber is working again :-)

3.5 is the latest version, it was released yesterday and it's supposed
to have the new scripts, but I think someone has messed up.

I've not actually tried downloading yet but I did get the update to 3.5
via the iplayer's own updater. Is this going to work or do I need to
download from a manual site?

Heh.

1. Download and expand iplayer-dl-0.1.17.tar.gz into /tmp.

2. cd <drag iplayer grabber.app here>

3. cd Contents/Resources

4. cp /tmp/iplayer-dl-0.1.17/bin/* bin/

5. cp /tmp/iplayer-dl-0.1.17/lib/*rb lib/

6. cp /tmp/iplayer-dl-0.1.17/lib/iplayer/*rb lib/iplayer/

7. cp /tmp/iplayer-dl-0.1.17/lib/iplayer/gui/*rb lib/iplayer/gui/

So when I say "merge" I just mean "copy over the top"...

The date on <http://www.limaromeo.com/projects/iplayer-downloader/> is
September. Though the date on the "3.5" version downloaded from that
page is indeed December... the author really should have updated the
whole page.

Anyway, iPlayer Grabber is fixable so I'm happy.

I have now moved over to using 'Get iPlayer Automator'
<URL:http://tom-tech.com/get_iplayer> which uses get_iplayer and
flvstreamer etc. I have been happily downloading the BBC HD and TV
resolution shows from this but have not tested out its AAC radio
downloads. It does have some series-link facilities but I have not yet
tried these either.

Wat a superb solution. I have one question, what is the button to the
right of the "Hide Selected Show(s)" do? It's the only, as far as I can
tell anyway, unlabeled control in the UI.

It's obviously not all that important as I was able to download fine with it.

Well done for this!

Best

It seems to be just an dummy button to pad out the space.

I tried it out and it seams to download TV shows fine (I downloaded the
'Russell Howard Xmas Special' with no problems), but it's a no go with
radio shows, and about 3/4 of the stuff I download is radio (mostly R4/7
comedies)

I tried downloading 'Laura Solon - Talking And Not Talking' but it was
saying something about the stream is not cached.

Plus iPD 3.5 is not working again, it looks like the iplayer-dl scripts
have took a double whammy.

Once I realised I had to tell it to Cache 'BBC Radio' in the General
section of its Preferences, I was able to find that radio show and
download it.

Unlike the TV shows it doesn't appear to add Radio to iTunes and also
leaves AAC streams as .aac rather than .m4a so less immediately
clickable.

I discovered the program when EyeTV had failed to record a program and I
was trying the HD downloads from the BBC iPlayer Desktop which then
broke after Adobe AIR updated itself. There was another Mac OS front end
to the get_iplayer scripts but I found the above seemed to work for me
nearer how I expected.

I've got the radio downloads working (I didn't have the radio streams
checked in the preferences, oops!)

3.5 was faulty, and 3.6 is now available.

This downloader for a MS Windows PC can download BBC iPhone TV programs. I
do not know how useful that would be to Mac users ?
