Upgrading to 10.6 changed a lot of my print drivers to non-manufacturer
ones and I lost the print-to-CD facility on my Epson. I wasn't best
pleased I can tell you! May be worth checking to see if the same thing
has happened there.

I think there's some new Snow Leopard magic in Software Update with
regard to printer drivers. A few weeks ago, I hooked up my MBP to
work's network, went to print something, and Bonjour gave me a list of
nearby printers; I selected the closest HP one to my desk, and, hey
presto, it all worked -- out popped a sheet of paper with the
appropriate ink on it. A little later, Software Update sprang up and
offered me some HP printer drivers, presumably matching the printer
I'd chosen earlier.
You've got to love Macs, really.

When you do an install of 10.6, if you go into the options to pick
what you want one of the printer options alongside is "printers you've
used recently or that are nearby on the network".

And there we have it! It seems to work jolly well, too.

And having to reinforce the floor. Battleships aren't in it. But you
really did feel that you would die before it did. I inherited one (an
ex-office network printer) with a couple of spare print engines, a very
long time ago. For various reasons I gave it away several years ago
(mainly because for what we needed to do, the HP1022 was a lot more
practical). I imagine it's still thundering away somewhere.

My HP inkjet stopped being able to print duplex about when 10.4 (or was
it 10.3?) came out, and never recovered the ability.
I don't think I'm going to buy another HP inkjet.

I had to do a work around to get my HP980 print duplex in 10.6 (I had no
problems in 10.5).
I re-installed the 10.5 driver, and use the 32-bit version of Preview to
print (if I want to print from a 64-bit program I save as PDF first).
