Try enabling it, then removing all the columns/rows so there's only one
Space (assuming it'll let you), then disabling it again.

Isn't there also a way of changing the hot keys?

A tad sloppy on Apple's part not to have disabled the hotkeys when the thing
they're controlling has also been disabled, but glad it worked out okay.

I really must get back to building my MAME table. How much to 2nd hand G4
Mac Mini's go for nowadays?

Hmmm. I had 'sub-100quid' in mind, so I may have to re-think my approach.

For the games I have in mind that probably wouldn't matter :-)

Galaga rules!

Would seem a bit of a expensive way of making a mame table - you don't need
the size of a mini, or the macness.
Wouldn't it be easier to just stick some PC motherboard in there? You could
get that way under £100 - in fact probably for free I would have thought
from someone throwing out a PC - a secondhand PC is worth nothing and can
run mame.

That hadn't occured to me - I've got a Celeron 1GHz that's pretty much set
up as a MAME table (FreeBSD) but it's in a minitower case and is a tad
large. Taking the mobo out...is something I hadn't thought of. I'd still
need to mount the power supply and hard drive, but that's not hard.

Something for me to think about. Thanks.

In terms of old games, Galaga is the one I can return to the most but I used
to _love_ Battlezone. Sadly, due to the special controls needed it isn't
easy to incorporate it into a general purpose MAME machine - it tends to
require one to itself.

I'm also very partial to Star Castle. And defender, even though I'm utterly
crap at it.

I used to be gods gift to defender. I played it recently and didn't manage
to get past the first wave!
Having said that, I did used to play it every day. I guess it is a practice
thing.

Don't touch it for MAME - go the Intel route instead. And as T i m
says, consider an old PC instead as they're much cheaper (though one
thing the Mini has going for it is it's quietness) and have MAME
cabinet-oriented front-ends available, such as MAMEWah that I use. Also
it's not just expense, the G4 just doesn't have the oomph required to
emulate some of the later stuff.

And if Sir is interested in building a MAME cabinet then Sir may well
wish to visit ultimarc.com, a company whose kit adorns my own cabinet
and who pretty much makes the whole process simple.

Cheers,
Ian
