Hi all,
With EMF camp only days away, EMFM is shifting into higher gear
as well (http://wiki.emfcamp.org/wiki/EMFM).
EMFM will be doing 24/3.5 internet radio live from the studio on the
campsite, as well as run the video streaming of the alpha and beta
stage. Check out the above wiki page for ways to tune in.
During the event the radio will run 24/7 (falling back to auto-dj
when there's no show and running repeats of earlier shows for listeners
in wildly different timezones). Every hour there will be a short news
bulleting, with the current terrorism threat level, the weather and
interesting security and tech news from the campsite and the globe.
Chris (naxxfish) has been doing a lot of work on the video data-flow
and broadcasting infra, and by thursday evening we will also have the
EMFM radio studio up and running.
Yet, between the two of us, there is only so much we can do, so perhaps
you want to lend a hand? We're looking for:
- - people who want to make radio! it's easy and fun to do, especially
when broadcasting-geeks like us provide the entire studio setup
for you; even if you have never touched a mixing desk before, you
can make radio with the help of the studio engineer that will be
there; all you need is something you want to talk about and maybe
some musical intermezzo's (creative commons or public domain or
some such license); you can pick one or more one-hour slots on the
wiki: http://wiki.emfcamp.org/wiki/EMFM_Radio_Schedule
- - with all the video streaming and radio going on, there'll be plenty
of stations to man; again, none of it is too complicated and you don't
have to have 10 years of experience with the BBC to be able to operate
the camera or the video switcher; if you are interested in that, check
out the schedule: http://wiki.emfcamp.org/wiki/EMFM#Volunteer_Schedule
- - something that is more of a challenge (possibly, but again, it's not
rocket science) are two 'chief engineer' chairs to fill during the
days of the event:
- Main Control Room (MCR) engineer, to keep an eye on the streams
going out and fix things when things break
- Chief Studio Engineer - keeps an eye on the cables (so that
no-one starts replugging the entire setup) and helps out less
audio-tech-savvy people who want to make radio
if you are interested in any of those positions, check out the
same volunteer schedule: http://wiki.emfcamp.org/wiki/EMFM#Volunteer_Schedule
Thanks for reading all the way through!
