Hi,
instead of a 'Merry Christmas to all' I wanted to resume what makes me love MetaSynth.
For additive synthesis, MS gives me a user interface that allows me to manipulate all of the harmonics in hearing range (and beyond) with complex amplitude, pitch and pan envelopes by global commands (picture design) or individually (draw). I can define integer multiples like natural harmonics or other progressions (scales). I can assign complex harmonic structures to the harmonics themselves so I don't have to settle with sines. There is no other application in the world that even remotely comes near these possibilities.
For spectral synthesis I can combine spectra of 2 sounds in various ways using the different image transfer modes. The other softwares that allow to do similar operations require serious understanding of mathematics and are not visual at all. And again, I can change the harmonic series, even in realtime, expand it, contract, it, reverse it... and I can see what I'm doing.
It is useless to say 'thank you' for an invention of that magnitude - well allow me try here. My praises may be a surprise to a few on the list here would remember my reservations about MS when it comes to realtime processing. But that is really only marginal, born out of the desire to make Metasynth even better.
In this sense, best wishes for the holidays
Jurgen
