Hello
I have resently noted, that my older AM-files cannot be opened with
the latest version of AM (4.7).
I get the message: "sorry, this fileformat is too old or incombatible"

I think the way to fix this, is to install 4.6 again and open the
files there, and save them again.
My problem is that my archive consists of more that 1000 artmatic-
files!
The old example files from UI with more than 2000 files have the same
problem.
So it would be nice if there was a work around.

Any help would be apreciated!

All the best

Hello,

Please take a look at the chapter Upgrading to Version 4.6 from Older Versions found in the documentation. In short: version 4.6 and later on an Intel machine cannot open pre-4.0 ArtMatic files when running natively. Run the software in Rosetta mode to open files created with version older than 4.0.

As noted in the docs, you can use the browser (running in Rosetta mode) to batch convert folders of files. I do recommend (as is noted in the docs) that you make a backup before performing the conversion.

Best,

Edward

Yes, you need get v 2.5 (I think). Open the files, re-save, and you
should be good to go.

If you search the archives you'll see I asked this about a year ago :-)

Not all files convert 100% but if you have 200 or so like me, you'll
be glad to get the majority saved.

Steve

Absolutely 100% vital recommendation.

For most files, you only need to run either ArtMatic 4.6 or later or the browser in Rosetta mode to open the old files. There may be 2.5 and older files that render differently. As noted in the 4.0 docs (and this chapter is in the reference manual, too) some architectural changes require some 2.5 to 3.6 files to be modified by hand because of changes in how a few components work.

Hi-

I don't know if you've experienced this, but after you check out the
'old systems' which have been languishing on your hard drive for a
very long time, rescue them, and then look at the system, you begin to
wonder why you used something so amazingly complex to make an image
you could have done with half as many components or more simply in
another program altogether.

Sometimes it's just best to try it again differently.

Best,
G.

Thanks Edward
What a relief!
My old AM-files work again. I even noticed that some of my image-
manipulation-systems remembered the images they used. This is
something I keep having problems with.

Hello George

I understand what you mean, and you have a point.
But I don't quite agree with you.

If you look for the most efficient way to create a specific picture,
then you are right - other apps will often be faster.
But with ArtMatic you can sometimes generate more than 20 interesting
images from one system!

I don't see an Artmatic file as an image, but as a system, that you
can continue exploring.

All the best

Hello Jakob -

Sorry to bother you, but at the end, what did you have to do
to open your old ArtMatic file into the latest version of ArtMatic (v6)?
Did you have to use "ArtMatic Browser"?

Thank you, have a nice day…

What version are the files that you are trying to convert?

What OS version are you running?

Best,

Edward
