Volunteers
needed for Riverwalk

The University of Iowa Engineering Staff Advisory Council (ESAC), along
with UI Facilities Management and the Office of Sustainability, is
organizing a Riverwalk Clean-Up project on June 2, from 9 to 11 a.m. UI
College of Engineering employees and other volunteers (age 18 or over) are
invited to help pick up trash along the banks of the Iowa River from the
pedestrian bridge near Hancher to the railroad bridge just north of Benton
Street. Volunteers can park in UI Lot 25 on Riverside Drive; registration
and check-in will take place near the UI Water Plant (208 West Burlington
St.) at 8:30 a.m.

Festival Green Team Volunteers

Summer of the Arts is need of Green Team volunteers at the Arts Festival
June 1-3! The green team is in charge of helping the festival attendees to
properly utilize our eco-stations which include compost, aluminum, and
plastic recycling! If you would like to get involved, go to

fill out the volunteer application form  under the 'volunteer' tab.
All
volunteers get a FREE T-shirt! Monetary rewards are available to

   Gin Selected for International Peace Bike Tour in
Japan<http://uiowa.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ded88b0c32ad1facbb6176...>

You're invited to support Michelle Gin of the Iowa Physicians for Social
Responsibility, who was elected as the sole representative of the United
States in an international peace bike tour Aug. 7-26 from Nagasaki to
Hiroshima, Japan. The tour is being held in conjunction with the Student
Congress, and 20th World Congress with the International Physicians for the
Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW).

Michelle is one of 44 young activists will cycle through southern Japan to
show their solidarity with the victims and survivors of nuclear weapons,
nuclear testing, uranium mining, nuclear energy and nuclear accidents in
the past 60 years. On the tour, the students will meet locals, speak with
politicians, give media interviews, and organize public demonstrations.

   Coca Cola Art of Recycling Contest winners

UI student Trang Dang was the grand prize winner in the Coca-Cola “Art of
Recycling” contest. The winning piece titled “Open Happiness” was a
stunning collage of recycled Coca-Cola labels portraying a smiling woman
with a bouquet of Coke Zero labels spilling out of a glass bottle. Lauren
Linge’s artwork titled “Sustain the World” earned first prize, while second
prize was presented to Jennifer Park for the  earrings she created from
Fanta and Cherry Coke aluminum cans.

   Year-End Donation Drive Diverts furniture, clothes, housewares from
landfill<http://uiowa.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ded88b0c32ad1facbb6176...>

As part of the University of Iowa Year-End Donation Drive nearly two tons
of furniture, clothing, housewares, and other items were diverted from the
Iowa City Landfill during Residence Hall move-out May 9 and 10. The two-day
event netted 3,733 pounds of material from three locations.
