Conference on Mad Science rises again! The Mad Science conference has
risen phoenix-like from the destruction wrought by torch-wielding
peasants. Once more, brilliant minds are called together from all
parts of the globe to dabble with the unknowable, to meddle with the
indispensible, and to wobble on the unshakeable. By submitting
research papers to our Programme Committee, mad scientists can benefit
by exchanging ideas with similarly derranged researchers and by
terrifying the world with the awesome potential of their projects.
Those not familiar with the theoretical and practical aspects of mad
science will learn much from a visit to our conference, and our
delegates will be delighted to integrate the uninitiated with their
experiments. The conference is being hosted at a new and peasant-proof
Web site: http://www.nethead.co.uk/MadScience/ Get ahead (one rarely

Febuary 29, 1996 Call for submissions: Perforations 7
TERRORISM/PROPAGANDA/DEMOGRAPHICS [terrorism : The systematic use of
terror, violence, and intimidation to achieve an end.] Terrorism, as a
function of periphery versus center, whether state-sponsored or it's
contrary, now seems to be a subset of those twin affections of the
twentieth century [as at least martin Heidegger had it]: boredom and
terror. As such they seem to be intimately tied to the telematic
presence which now circles the globe, the grip of which tightens
daily. Terror is now almost fully a spectacular statistical entity,
almost sublime in its large-numbers ability to numb the brain with a
fog-like insistence, obscuring and highlighting features at the same
time. All media sought. PERFORATIONS is now an elecronic journal

March 08, 1996 BENEDICTUS AWARD * 1995-96 /student design competition
This competition will challenge architecture students to design an
international visitors' center in Sydney, Australia. This facility
will have numerous functions. In addition to serving as a visitors'
orientation center for the city of Sydney, the structure should be
partially devoted to exhibits of local culture and history. Due to
the attractive location across from the Sydney Opera House, students
will be challenged to integrate their designs into the context of this
historic, world-renowned harbor. The high volume of international
traffic [both pedestrian and water] received by the facility would
make security an important consideration in the design. $5,000 first
prize. Contact: Christine Bahar Hess, Senior Project Manager,
ACSA/DuPont Student Design Competition, 1735 New York Av NW,
Washington DC 20006 OR 202-785-2324 OR 202-628-0448(FAX) OR
