People,
Yesterday (Sunday) morning at 7:00 am, pre-ride cyclists gathered at Charlie Smyth's house at 805 S. Coler in Urbana to witness Charlie's acceptance of the prestigious Champaign County Bikes Chairman Bicycle Friendly House Award.
Charlie's house is a frequent starting point for country rides as arranged via the UCBIKERIDE website and email list. Coffee is always provided as well as an ample supply of sunscreen in the warmer months for the caffeine-deficient and sunblock-challenged cyclists who show up for early morning country rides.
Charlie is also well know for his service on the Urbana City Council and his long-term committment to make Champaign County's County Seat (a.k.a. Urbana) more bicycle friendly. Charlie also used the occasion to launch his campaign for Champaign County Clerk among the cyclists present.
Thanks, Charlie, for making Urbana and Champaign County better places for cyclists. Others can send their notes of thanks to Charlie at csm...@sbcglobal.net.
Here is Charlie receiving the award from me in front of appreciative cyclists yesterday morning before our torrid tour to the backside and beyond of Allerton Park near Monticello, IL
