Subject: Please look for the Powerstrips. Don't Open Floorboxes.
Some students are opening floorboxes in Soda Hall and ignoring the
numerous power strips we have provided for them in the Soda Labs.  Our
equipment is mostly donated and very old.  We do not have the budget to
replace broken parts rapidly.

Uplugging the sunrays will not reset your session.  If your session is
stuck, use <Control><Alt><Backspace> twice and it will reset your frozen
session.  This will work on the Solaris x86 boxes in 275 Soda as well.

If you are unplugging the systems because you need to plug in your
laptop, please look for the power strips instead.  In Soda Hall, these
are mostly on the tables.  In Cory Hall, you may find them along the
walls.  If you have to unplug something to do it, then you are not
looking hard enough.  We've already had several students disable our
systems by unplugging or rebooting the systems.

Here are powerstrip locations in Soda Hall:

In 271 Soda:
There are 3 twelve outlet power strips in 3 aisles.  There is also an
empty table next to 2 wall outlets, on the eastern wall(left as you come
through the main doors).

In 273 Soda:
There are 4 twelve outlet power strips on the tables.  Keep in mind that
it may be behind you.  The power strips are near the aisles, because
that allows for more users.  This is normally a drop in lab so there are
more power strips here.

275 Soda:
Unfortunately, there are very few power strips in this lab.  The tables
have lockboxes, that prevent us from installing the more useful longer
power strips.  We do have 2 six outlet power strips on the floor in the
center row of computers and 1 twelve outlet power strip at the "TA" table.

277 Soda:  The central tables have two power strips.  This was intended
for an experimental laptop class, but worked out as a student
laptop/study room, so we're keeping it the way it is.  However, students
should throw out their garbage, not leave it on the tables.

349 Soda,  Power strips are on the tables, nestled between the systems
and/or monitors.  There should be 6 power strips, 1 per pair of
computers.  (We had a seventh one that was stolen.)

330 Soda,  There are 3 six outlet power strips along the floor.  Please
don't move them around the room.  Two are needed where they are, one for
a projector that is brought in, one for a scanner we use.  The third one
is situated at the end of an aisle and that give access to more stations.
