If you read here...
http://linux.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/08/24/0059218

"John Carmack, the lead developer for id's Tech 5 graphics engine, does
not plan on making a Linux port for the new engine."

But he also says...

"If there are hundreds of thousands of Linux users playing Quake Live
when we are done with Rage, that would certainly influence our decision."

So, go to https://www.quakelive.com and sign up. It is free. Only play
in Linux. :)

I've been playing it lately... but from work when there's downtime (so no Linux playing...) :(

I'll have to start playing this from my Linuxbox at my place, though. :D

Hello All!

First post, so thought I'd say hi.

That said, on this subject, I am amazed at how well this works, and
its web-based, blows me away. Very cool, plays great, and yes, I use
it from Linux - id Games has always been a great advocate for Linux
gaming, I am miffed to see them walk away - so far I have sccessfully
played and enjoyed all their games on linux (usually with a native
linux client...) and usually it runs faster on linux due to their love
of opengl when so many of their peers use directx.

Good stuff.

Thanx for posting this. I heard something about it a few months ago
before it came out and truthfully I forgot about it till I came on to
the Houston LInux Group.

I have been playing non-stop ever since I found out! And it works
great through Linux!

Even on my Intel Video Chipset(I know, i know, I should buy a graphics
card, I just dont wanna get wrapped up in hardcore gaming any more,
cuts into my music makin) it's fantastic.

Although I do have a tiny bit of a problem with sound. I get artifacts
every few seconds and I don;t know if it becouse I am using an Audio
Interface or what....

I can live with the noise but....it would be nice to see if I can
eliminate it.

I have only gotten 1 chance to practice, but will be playing more "online" shortly (within the next week or 2), my Quake online name is akakingess, so try that as far as adding a friend and let's see if it works. I've never played any online games (3 kids kills playing time), but now I am unemployed and searching for a job takes a lot less than actually having one ;)
