Iomega zip drive

I installed an Iomega zip drive on my system, installed jazip and ran jazipconfig.  Jazipconfig tells me it cannot find  a jaz or zip device.  The device is installed and has power.  It uses the parallel port and is the only device on that port.  Any ideas on how I can tell the system the device is there?

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 desktop.
