Anna's Hummer, RBGB, BLGB
|
| |
This report is a bit late as I was hoping a couple of the birds would hang around before I reported them. On Sunday, 5/27, I had a female ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD visting my yard hummingbird feeders (Oak City, Millard Co). That was a first for me in Millard Co and my yard. Also had a Red-breasted Grosbeak spend the day in my backyard. Another bird... more »

Zion Np and Lytle
|
| |
Went to Lytle yesterday to chase the Ovenbird and Common Ground Dove, but no luck. I did get there very late in the day. There were a few Summer Tanagers, Blue Grosbeaks, Lucy's Warblers, Phainopepla, Hooded Oriole & other Lytle specialties present.
Today I worked near the Subway in Zion. There were at least 7 Indigo Bunting there (probably more), two blue Grosbeak, Costa's Hummingbird, Black Phoebe and a Black-Chinned Sparrow.... more »

Iron county Hotspots
|
| |
On my way back from the trip last weekend to Washington Co. I thought to
myself, "I don't think I've ever birded in Iron county." I stopped for some
dinner and walked along the Lower Cedar Canyon trail/bike path thingy
(similar to the Provo/Jordan river parkway) and added my first 15 birds to
my Iron county list. When I got back home I tried to look around on some... more »

Gray Catbird at East Bay
|
| |
Well, it's exciting for me, as it was a lifer, but I'm not sure if it
will be for others who are more experienced birders than me. Tonight
I saw a Gray Catbird on the trail near Novell at the intersection of
East Bay Blvd. and 1600 S., on the southwest side of the
intersection. They have an incredible song, and they really can sound... more »

ID help on Flycatcher
|
| |
Found this flycatcher at Willard Bay north c.g. just south west of the
pond. It was working mid canopy. Didn't make any calls.
My first thought was Western Wood-Pewee but the light colored throat has me
thinking different. I'm also thinking Willow but I'm not seeing and eye
ring. So I turn to the more knowledgeable.... more »

Rose-Breasted Grosbeak
|
| |
At around 10:00 am today at Garr Ranch I saw a male Rose-Breasted
Grosbeak. It was around the NE spring area. It flew in from the
woods and landed on the ground about two feet from me. I got a
terrible photo with my phone for confirmation. It stayed still for
about 45 minutes and then finally flew up to a near-by branch.... more »

Identifying Bird Songs
|
| |
I've been listening to the birds at my feeder today and made a recording of a few minutes of their songs. Can you identify the different birds in this recording. Don't miss the tapping sound at the end. I think there are only four different birds in the recording, what do you hear?

What a difference a day makes.
|
| |
Decided to come back out in my blind again this morning, after what I was able to see and photography the last two mornings and nothing. No warblers, vireos, grosbeaks, tanagers, nothing but house sparrows and starlings. What a difference! Sent from Yahoo! Mail on Android

St. George Birding Fun (+ ID help)
|
| |
Last Friday I intended to arrive in St. George, to straight to bed, and meet up on Saturday at 6 am with the group that was going to Lytle Ranch. Unfortunately it turned out to be one of those nights where my brain wouldn't let me sleep. So, I missed the group outing to Lytle. But I decided to take the chance to get in some solo birding around town. And while I may not have seen as many species as I would have going to Lytle, I did have some fun finds. ... more »

Backyard bathers
|
| |
Photos of some of the birds that I had come into my pond today.
Also had two female Bullocks Orioles and a pair of Pine Siskins come in
after I had left the blind.
Black-headed Grosbeaks where pretty determined to get to the pond as the
were waiting for me to leave as I got of the blind on the power line... more »
