What is the club:
It's a way for University of Arizona students (mostly, but not exclusively, CS and ECE students) to all get together on a regular basis and get to know each other, share ideas, give critical feedback on each others' projects, support each other in whatever way we can (e.g. share things we learned along the way), and inspire each other by knowing our peers are doing cool stuff. It's also a way to help bright CS students (even sophomores and freshman) realize that they already have all the tools they need to take over the world. Such a waste to wait until you get a BS to realize that doing awesome stuff only really required basic programming skills, brains, and dedication.
Join the group and read the previous emails for more info. Or just contact softdev [dot] officers [at] gmail [dot] com with your questions.
Where and when does the club meet?
Every Thursday at 7pm in GS 906.
Some things the club may do, depending on the day and people's interests:
- Firefox extension development (Justin is more than happy to get you started)
- Iphone app development (someone in the club does this already)
- Web application development (Many people who can help you with this)
- GUI programming
- Python module development
- SecondLife scripting
- Web app widgets for sites like Google, Facebook, etc.
- Game development
- Maintaining packages for your linux distro of choice (chip in and help the community!)
- Roll your own linux distro
- If you want to go crazy with hardware stuff, robotics, AI, whatever, then that's great. (I just didn't want to make the club name so vague it was meaningless.)
