Hi Jim,

... I know there has once been a bounty for creating JiffyDOS for the
VIC-20. Well, I want one, well three so to speak, and searched around
the net and indeed found an archive containing all sorts of JiffyDOS
bin files, one of which being a version for the VIC-20.

I wonder, if I sent you the bin file with the VIC-20 version, could
you put it into a switchable ROM adapter like the ones you have for
C64/C128(D) along with the original ROM image? If you'd do that, then
I would buy 3 of them instantly. :-)

I only hope there's no difference between PAL and NTSC ROM images,
because I live in PAL land. :-)

...and I bought one on eBay from He Who Duplicates a while back. Ya
It's a nice addition to the Vic, would love to get several more legit
ones too. Wouldn't say no to a Plus4 version Either.

Legally, I cannot do that without a proper license.

This isn't really the proper group for this discussion, and I think you
intended this as a personal message. However, if you could secure a
license to the JiffyDOS modifications from Maurice Randall, I would be
happy to help you.

Obviously, though I suspect there is nomimal demand for the VIC and +4
versions, I still hold hope that I can on day arrange licensing with MR,
as I do dread not being legally able to assist. Regardless of folks'
views of Maurice, he did devote significant energy making the
modifications, and I have no issues compensating for that work. Another
part of me just hates to replicate the work effort.

Hi Jim,

... understandable.

... I can not help with a license because I can surely not pay enough
to obtain it. :-( I could burn the images into en EPROM myself and use
a standard adapter socket with a switchable address line to switch
between the images. Hence, there's no chance for Maurice to prevent me
from doing this. :-P Still, I'd love to have a proper manufactured
version instead of my less then unprofessionally manufactured
approach. ;-) That's why I asked.

Also, I did post this issue here to also see if there's some interest
of other people also getting one and to see if it would be worth for
you to produce a production run.

... I have no problem with Maurice. I don't even know him. Where can I
reach him to ask about license issues?

Hi all, hi Jim,

... seems like I found a person who not only sells the VIC-20 version,
but also a C64/+4 version. For the VIC-20 version, you'd have to
specify whether you want PAL or NTSC. For the C16/+4 version, there is
no difference between PAL and NTSC. Also, the chips for the C16 and +4
are identical.

If you're on lemon64.com, contact "eslapion" (real name Francois
Leveille). He sell's all three versions, worldwide. I ordered quite a
bunch from him. He gave me a discount on my comparatively big order of
15 items (10 x PAL VIC-20, 2 x NTSC VIC-20 and 3 x C16/+4). And best
of all, I didn't even ask for it. :-)

Jim, in one of his posts he mentions that he will continue to sell
them until you (or in fact anyone) manages to get the license from
Maurice.

Just a quick note on this old thread to note that I now have secured a
license for VIC-20 JD. I will put it up in the store for order.

I thought that version of JD never made it past the beta stage. Nice to
see I'm wrong!

Hi Jim,

My Vic would be better with Jiffy dos, this version will work okay still with
the CMD HD and FD-2000 since these are just serial devices and will work with the Vic
including of course the u-IEC (way better).

We need some sort of memory expansion cartridges for the Vic though, myself I like the
Commodore style that has the built in Dip switches where you can change the memory
banks, but just support more than 16kb of memory.  The place overseas that made the
Vic cartridge with lots of Rom games doesnt even answer my email so I have not been
able to purchase this cool cartridge, is why I was making this inquiry.
