For those who missed the BBC showing of the FTSD documentary last
night - heres an early Christmas Present

These will be deleted when they go public - so anyone wanting to
mirror them to keep them up would be appreciated.

Enjoy

Heres a link to some screenies of the edges mini rack and pedal board,
not very good definition, but someone will surely recognise all or
most of the pedals

What was this documentary (FTSD???) - when was it on and on what side
BBC1, 2, 3, 4?

Am I looking at the same thing here....

On BBC iPlayer I saw U2 at Glastonbury... I didn't see any
documentary, FTSD or otherwise. What does FTSD mean anyway?

I can't download those files so I can't check.

FTSD = From the Sky Down
In the documetary I think Edge says "making a
song is like building a house from the sky down".
The documtary was broadcasted before U2 at Glastonbury.

Watched it last night, thought it was good. Lots of footage that I
had already seen (e.g. Berlin and Achtung Baby recordings) but lots of
new stuff too. Some interesting quotes (albeit in heinsight) about
how they feel about the post Joshua Tree era.

The most interesting part for me was listening to some of the very
early DAT tapes of concept songs that eventually became the likes of
Mysterious Ways and One. They sounded WAY different but the rough
chord progression and melody was starting to take shape.

No mediafire sorry - but the links I put up are still available and I
will take them down by Friday as the files have got a cumulative
download of 1933 times, so I assume everyone who wants them have now
got them

From the U2 recording group someone put up a link for the HD torrent -
you can get them here if you want to P2P the file - but my opinion is
a direct download is not tracked like a torrent can be - therefore it
is more secure.

Heres the like to the torrent if you want it.

All the best

The versions I've seen of the doc has some strange pitch changes. I
wonder if that's something that went wrong with the BBC doc capture or
if the original doc is the same. I certainly hope not, it's extremely
irritating. EWB

From interference: "You have good ears, it is indeed slightly sped up,
but not really not for time constraints. PAL is the encoding system
used in the UK, and is by nature sped up 4% compared to NTSC, which is
used in America. Anything you watch on TV (including obviously the
BBC) in the UK and Europe (and a good part of the rest of the world)
is in PAL and features this speedup. It's also present on most DVD's
(bought not Blu Ray) bought in the UK (Region 2) and other parts of
the world. It's generally not noticeable, but one of the effects (in
addition to a slightly shorter running time) is that sounds will be at
a slightly higher pitch vs. NTSC, and if you're from North America and
are used to watching TV there, and are very familiar w/a particular
voice or movie, and you have good ears, you can sometimes hear it."

I don't know it that's true or if it's something to do with the files
I've seen or my PC. But that is a unbelievable annoying thing, I still
enjoyed the movie though. It's just that everybody sounds a bit like
chipmunks when they talk and much of the music is just slightly OFF.
The only other time I can remember hearing stuff like this is the
Region 2 Ratle and Hum, it's totally useless. So I have both Region 1
and 2 and had to make sure I had a region free DVD player so I could
see the Region 1 version instead.

Unbelievable. EWB

EWB I think it's basically that NTSC / film are 24 frames per second
PAL is 25 - there's the 4%. As an anology, Pride is usually at 105
bpm. Add 4% and you're 110 - Slane to Paris and I'm sure Michael will
confirm that's a different vibe and feel.

They must fix other live DVDs though.

Yes, Darren, could be.
I seem to remember that the Rattle and hum R2 is sped up, but not by a
semitone or two, in the middle somewhere. While the FTSD is in tune
with the guitar if you move up a fret or two. Maybe that's not the
best way to say it but I just woke up. I'm sure the disc in the AB
Anniv. Edition will be better. EWB

I noticed this when the end credits were rolling on top of the
glastonbury performance of EBTTRT, the pitch was higher and slightly
faster. And strangely I thought it sounded better than the regular
one.
