I want to print out a sheet of QR codes times one or two dozen sheets.  The general idea is to put them on the back of photos to catalog the hard originals with the digital scans of them.  Generally I just need random/unique numbers or numbers that go in order though eventually it would be nice to print out a bigger label with the media data like subjects, location, data etc that would be merged into the QR code.  Anyway, I can find plenty of places online to make individual codes, but first off I need something that will make a sheet of them, all different.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

There is an extension for Inkscape that seems to work OK.  The instructions for adding the extension are here:
http://code.google.com/p/qr-code-plugins/wiki/Inkscape
The files that you will need to copy over are here:
http://code.google.com/p/qr-code-plugins/downloads/list

Version 4.9 of Inkscape will have this built in...but it's only version 4.8+ right now.

I just re-read your email. It doesn't seem like it would be very easy to automate this in Inkscape.

If it didn't have to be a QR code, specifically, then OpenOffice writer and calc can both generate a variety of linear barcodes.

Also, if you're just using the label for a key to find the image file somewhere, why couldn't you index the meta data using the same key?

If you don't have too many QR codes to make, you can generate them one at a time and just manually change the number (in Inkscape).  They will be stacked when they are made, so you will need to them move them to different places in the document.

The initial plan is to just get them scanned and organized without worrying about the meta data to much and then print up a proper label with text as well as a QR code that contains the meta data for for now I think we'll just write a number on a piece of tape on the back of the pictures and will probably work on some PHP to make up a label sheet eventually.  Thanks for the info.
