Subject: Supercomputer: Boot Debian from local hard drive successful!
I have successfully set up a netboot (PXE) install for Debian and used
it to install Debian onto a hard drive on an RLX blade computer. To get
this going took a lot of Googling, a lot of trial-and-error and at least
one epiphany. Immediately after installing the blade booted successfully
from the hard drive. No manual tweaking or configuration was required.
The space used on the root partition after the install was 598 megabytes.

This gives us another way to configure nodes on the supercomputer. Local
booting will reduce the load on network and server. It also shows that
the modern Debian installer is able to create a compact installation for
the venerable RLX blades. Can running the latest MPI libraries and
cluster management tools be far behind?

     Cheers,
