Is it possible to enable / disable sms alerts via the API? I've looked, but being a relative newbie to all this I may have missed it.

At the moment it is not. We're going to be refactoring some of the user interface controls for alert preferences, and I'll add API methods at that time. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm adding another vote for this. I've got a little widget in mind to turn off SMS messages while I'm working at the computer (probably based on IM status).
