when should they be used?  We already have span* that will size the inputs
so whats the point of these?

The input size classes were there before the grid .span* sizes. We have
them in there for legacy reasons.

ok, that makes sense.  So whats the plan, will these eventually go away?

I'd really love to see these turn the input into a larger element.  So say
you uses input-xlarge it would set a font-size of 16 and maybe add some
padding.  That way we could have big inputs to go with our big buttons :)

If we do end up removing them, that won't happen until 3.0.
