TRC Cycling Safety Effort    

Linda, Carol, Debbie, Tamra, and Jen have formed a subcommitte of the board to develop a project or series of projects for the club to conduct meant to improve awareness of cycling in the community as well as safety.

Safety Committee Recommendations/Projects

TRC Board approval needed

 

I. Safety projects:  

  •    Helmet Handout and TRC web page
  • Bicycle road signs in Clarkston:  Linda meeting with Joel Ristau next week.  Will address bike signs at access points for bike path in Clarkston.
  • Join American Bicyclist.  $55/year for club and purchase safety DVD $30 for club events. 
  • Lewiston Parks and Rec contacted for community Biking Class for adults.  A one day class by TRC members or Jen  Cunningham.  She will address basic rules of the road, safety, repairs, etc. 
II.Bike to Work 2008: May 12-16 is National Bike to Work Week.  http://www.bikeleague.org/programs/bikemonth
  •  Write a press release for Tribune and for news/ chamber of commerce presentations
  • Contact Chamber of Commerce for Clarkston/Lewiston to present on Bike to Work Week support
  • Club members bike to work during the week and offer a club ride on Friday May 16. Offer to escort riders to work               meeting at specified location, ie. McDonalds Clarkston, Rosaurs parking lot in Lewiston
  •  Tee shirts for the Friday May 16 ride 
III. Bicycle Festival advertised by area bike shops and TRC: Flyers, public notice in paper.

    a. Area bicycle shops have bikes available to try

    b. TRC will check your bike for riding readyness, safety pointers, bicycling manners on the path .

    c.  TRC member to lead Easy Does it ride that day

Chandler, You've just volunteered to be our Moscow, Palouse area rep!
We'll let you know when we get a press release together etc. so you
can contact the area news outlet. You retired guys are ripe for
volunteer projects. Linda :)

Chandler, I'm bringing brownies. recently featured on the cover of Cooking
Light.. Can't wait. Linda We'll make sure and send a note to both
newspapers. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

A couple comments:
Both the Tribune and the Daily News should be contacted to reach a greater region.
In the past MAMBA in Moscow has been semi-active in bike rodeos etc. They might be a good partner in this. see comment above.
What's for dessert?
