NEW YORK (AP) - ABC says more than 1,500 people have called to complain about Adam Lambert's sexually charged performance at the American Music Awards.

The network characterized the response as "moderate." Before his performance, Lambert said that he wanted to break down a double standard that existed where female performers are often sexually provocative while men don't do it that often.

There were also hostile comments online about the "American Idol" glam rocker who sang his new song "For Your Entertainment" on Sunday's show with an elaborate, S&M-themed production. Lambert fondled a dancer, led another around on a leash, had a dancer briefly stick his head in Lambert's crotch and kissed a man.

So, he wanted to prove that men can be skanky, talentless whores, too?

I don't think this fits the standard definition of gender equality...
making both genders appear juvenile.

Good for Adam, and good for ABC showing it without censorship or disclaimers.

Pop music has always been the province of skanky talentless (and
sometimes talented) whores. The music is always highly charged by
sexuality and it's foolish to claim any redeeming value.

Apparently, ABC thought this:

"had a dancer briefly stick his head in Lambert's crotch"

...was too skanky for its viewers on the West Coast and was cut from
their feed.

I was not one of the 1500 watching the AMAs, but I was one of the many
watching the Laker-Thunder basketball game at Staples, which is next
door to the Nokia. about half way through the game a bunch of music
and other stars walked in (supplementing the always star studded
Staples crowd). It looked like Jay-Z was actually at the game the
whole night, so he may have skipped the awards show all together.
Fergie, Will I am and A-Rod all came in together, and Wil grabbed a
mike and sang a long with one of the Pea's songs being piped into the
crowd - it was actually pretty cool. In general it added to the party
atmosphere, as the Lakers were winning in a blow-out.

I heard A-Rod's chick had a nip slip, and that Jay Lo just slipped. If
it had been the other way around I might have been sorry to miss it.
As is, I am glad I watched the game.

The plot thickens

First on TVNewser: American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert won't be appearing on "Good Morning America" tomorrow.

TVNewser has learned ABC News canceled the concert after Lambert's sexually charged performance at the American Music Awards Sunday night. Lambert led men on leashes, dragged a woman by her foot, and smashed a man's head into his crotch, all while singing his new single "For Your Entertainment."

ABC, which aired the awards show, received about 1,500 phone calls from people complaining about the performance, a number ABC calls "moderate."

An ABC News spokesperson tells TVNewser, "given his controversial live performance on the AMAs we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning."

Lambert performed as part of GMA's summer concert series in August, and it was in a "20/20" interview that Lambert came out, telling Chris Connelly, "I am gay, and I'm very comfortable with it."

File this under: Too lazy to live.

I'm watching LA's Fox 11 newscast last night (not entirely my fault,
since my car is in several pieces in Beaumont, CA and my mom is in
control of what we watch at her home) and they do a story about fan
reaction to Adam Lambert's performance. It was an odd story because
people interviewed didn't seem entirely focused on the questions
asked. And the next story revealed why. A reporter was covering
"breaking news;" Lady Gaga was signing CDs at a local Best Buy. The
reporter was interviewing people in line to see Lady Gaga, and I'll be
damned if they weren't the exact same people interviewed for the
previous story about Adam Lambert.

Update to the same article at 1:13pm (West?): CBS' Early Show picked
him up.

(The URL is the same, my browser is hanging on that page.)

And once again I'm reminded of Sam Spade's line in "The Maltese
Falcon:" "The cheaper the crook, the gaudier the patter." Or to
paraphrase Mae West: "Talent had nothing to do with it."
