I've been watching (or half watching) the CBS double-header this afternoon (or evening where I am). We've seen Indianopolis at Baltimore, and are getting the less exciting San Diego at Denver as I type.

But in neither game this week, have I seen those "1st & Ten" lines overlaid on the screen. I know that the deep shadows of the early game in Baltimore can cause issues with placing those lines. But the Denver game doesn't seem to have any problems.

Is there a reason for this? Or perhaps the feed being sent to the UK this week perhaps has had them left off by mistake this week?

Just curious.

I haven't seen either of those games today.  We've got Jets-Patriots here on the CBS affiliate and we have the usual blue line of scrimmage and yellow first down marker on my game.

I watched all of the Colts game, and been flipping between the Denver
and the Patriots games. I don't recall noticing the presence or
absence of the lines in the early game, but I have the Denver-SD game
on my TV right now, and I see the usual blue line for the line of
scrimmage and yellow line for the line to gain.

I guess it may not have been added for your feed - I just caught a
highlight on ESPN with the line of scrimmage and down/to go graphics
overlaid onto the field. It's very rare these days to see a football
game on a major network without the first down line.

I recall that in the first 2 seasons those lines were shown, they
involved TWO trucks for live video processing, and all the cameras had
to be outfitted with encoders to read the angle-of-the-camera-dangle.
My simple university graphics course in the late 1980s gave me an
appreciation of the computational power required for this at 30 frames
per second (or 29.97 in NTSC average).

all that said, it seems weird that they didn't have it live for your
games. Perhaps they lent the trucks to TSN in Canada to process the CFL
division finals :-)

Thanks for the confirmations.

I guess it must have strangely been removed/left-off the international feeds. It's odd because we usually see them, and indeed we get all the network's graphics. I always enjoy seeing the in-game promos for shows that we're either never going to see, or air on different networks in the UK (often at a several week/month delay).

Somebody must have just plugged the wrong lead in somewhere yesterday.
