Bill Lawrence, creator of Scrubs, Spin City, and Cougar Town will be
Marc Maron's guest this Thursday. Bill and his wife Christa are two of
my favorite Twitter feeds to follow. I have been fans of all of his
shows, though I'm less of a fan of Cougar Town because it seems geared
towards a different demographic. I'm hoping he'll talk about the feud
between NBC and Scrubs.

Pray elucidate on this feud.

I've recently started listening to WTF based on your recommendations.
I find Maron to be barely tolerable by himself, but slightly better
with the guests. He's better with comedians than actors, though.

The feud started to be vocalized a few seasons before Scrubs moved
from NBC to ABC. They shuffled the timeslot, did next to no promotion,
shuffled the order of episodes (screwing up more than a few story
arcs), and relegated the series to fourth tier during upfronts and
affiliate conventions. After the ABC move, Lawrence was very vocal
about why he took ABC up on their offer regardless of what NBC
countered with. He'd worked with ABC on Spin City and was in
development with them for CougarTown. ABC put money into the series
and even paid through the nose for the half spinoff/half final season
"Med School" episodes.

I listened to the podcast and I recommend it for people who are
interested in how TV is made. When Maron talks to actors, especially
ex-members of The State, they don't often offer a lot of insight about
the way networks think or how decisions are made. The showrunners he
has had on do talk about these things.

The Bill Lawrence interview was pretty good. But it dawned on me I had heard him tell many of these stories before. He said similar things on Greg Fitzsimmons' FitzDog podcast last year.
