And on a mildly related note - are sweeps really only something for the networks? I kind of thought cable did something similar, but I finally put two and two together when I noticed Colbert and Stewart are off this week.

Sweeps are for local stations to set their ad rates. Networks participate to help their O&Os and affiliates. Cable stations rely mostly on subscriber fees and don't use sweeps data.
