FOX News mole Joe Muto is making the press rounds. I was not aware of this until I heard NPR's “On The Media” today. Muto had some interesting observations.

FOX tries to “stir up the crazies” because when they get people upset, they watch more TV.

Sarah Palin wouldn't even do the bare minimum to get prepared. Bill O'Reilly tried to help her out, but she didn't care. So even O'Reilly gave up on her.

Once O'Reilly gets an idea in his head, he stubbornly clings to it. He won't accept reality when it turns out the original report is wrong.

I checked out some other media reports. It turns out Shep Smith, Megyn Kelly and Geraldo Rivera (Geraldo Rivera?) are held in high esteem by FOX staffers for their news cred. And O'Reilly doesn't get along with Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh.

My guess is that Rivera is looked at for his much older work.

That said, I have always had a soft spot for both Mr Smith and Ms Kelly when it comes to acknowledging the non-FNC bubble. I think there's a general agreement on the panel here that if Fox did decide for whatever reason to create a nightly news broadcast, Mr Smith would not only be the logical fit, but a worthy challenge to the Big Three.

Apologizes for the large type face. I wrote it up in OpenOffice and pasted it into Gmail. I thought it would go as text only, but obviously I was wrong.

The story has been that if Fox ever went back into late-night, their talk show would air at 11:35 and the Shep Smith newscast would air at 11 (and Ailes has supposedly promised Shep that he would get the network newscast--I already noticed that he anchors any coverage on Fox broadcast, including the State of the Union).  Unfortunately, the affiliates would probably howl loudly, especially if they were running "Big Bang Theory" and/or "2.5 Men" at 11 or 11:30 (seems to me most Fox O&Os are airing repeats of "TMZ" and "Dish Nation" in those time slots).

WNYW/5 in NYC runs an episode of "Bang" followed by a double-pump of "30Rock".
WTXF/29 in Philly runs TMZ and (former O'Reilly haunt) Inside Edition.

I've got two for this one:
1) "Keep f**king that chicken"; or
2) "We'll DO IT LIVE! F**K!"
