Its not exactly the same thing I guess, but...
Ricky Gervais got criticized for making fun of overweight people who
have surgical reductions (e.g. "They have bits sliced off and tied up
and sucked out. I want to say to them, 'You lazy f---ing fat pig. Just
go for a run and stop eating burgers. You might fucking die'."). I am
fighting a bit of weight problem myself; I didn't find this offensive,
but not that all funny on its merits. (I did thing this part, not in
the huufpo piece, was funnier: : "In supermarkets, the really
fattening stuff should be behind a really thin door. Shops should be
full of salads, but if you want to get to the pies and cakes, you've
got to crawl through a little tube."

RG's rejoinder to the criticism however was hysterical - even if it
risked offending even a wider range of people. So funny that I would
believe it if he said he only did the first bit so he could come out
with the second. So potentially offensive that anyone reading this far
should consider themselves warned about reading further:

When I commit to a diet and exercise program (about 6 months out of
the year), it actually works and I drop 30 pounds or so (then gain it
back over the next 6 months... lather-- rinse-- repeat). It astounds
me when people ask me what me secret is for losing weight. When I
reply "diet and exercise," they're almost instantly disappointed, as
everyone secretly hopes there is some other way to do it. I'm not
offended by what he said, and I was mildly amused by it (though I'm
more interested in what Karl Pilkington's views would be). I can only
say that anyone who can't find the humor in those who get the stomach
stapling should meet a former co-worker of mine. She had to have the
stapling done more than once (for the record, more than twice) because
it didn't take. Say what you will, that woman had the mother of all
appetites (as well as the father, two brothers, and a sister).

I'm not offended by what he said, and I was mildly amused by it (though I'm

off they blurred the apparent ass-shot (which may have made her more
charming and adorable) in the photograph Dave held up.
