The cable universe dropped 400,000 subscribers in Q2 2012, or about
0.4% of the subscriber base.

The Atlantic has several relevant articles. The first is from Rebecca
Greenfield, posted August 3rd. It's a short enough article and well
worth reading. Her point is that numbers of people quitting
cable/satellite don't show the most important group, young people
starting households that she calls "cord-nevers." The number of
households with cable/satellite stays relatively steady while the
number of US households rises.
