OT: My mother, the 3rd chapter

The home-care service's authorization has run out, and it'll again be
up to mom and her MD to figure out what's next.

Eventually they will realize that my original suggestion, a rehab
hospital in nearby Allentown, will be the best choice, tho there still
is that stupid rule that requires a percentage of current patients to
be having specific conditions before her Medicare-backed insurance
will cover it.

Our friend the out-of-work nurse will still show up when she can (they
are paying her about every month), but she and my kid brother have
travel plans in the near future, and they're talking to at least one
other person they know with nursing background to fill in.

Turn for the worse: Our Friend The Nurse slipped on ice and fractured
her left leg outside, iroincally, her local pharmacy. I told kid bro
that the sooner mom's MD is told about what's going on, the better,
but of course I ain't holding my breath.

OFTN will be out of action for at least the next month-and-a-half.

Kid bro knows a woman who works in another local nursing facility (and
has a prior history with him), but at best will only be able to visit
mom mornings straight off her work shift.

I have no clues on whether kid bro tried to contact mom's MD.

Dad is getting more frustrated by the day; he's got enough to do, even
at his age, without having to also make time to do personal care
things for mom; me? I'm already doing all I believe I can.

It may get to the point that I call the rehab hospital and ask them to
get involved without waiting for the MD. Brother #3 has gone off on
his customary weekend visit to a friend with pets upstate, so this may
happen sooner than expected, unless I convince dad to call.

The rehab hospital asked out of the deal; it's not their station to
compete with "N&R" centers.

Now we have to figure out whether to (1) approach others of the latter
variety directly, to make them promise to follow a sustainable program
that will not cause insurance issues, or (2) get someone from our
insurance to do so (we think they can, we think they can).

No one knows enough to call mom's MD, and frankly, I still doubt much
she cares.

Nurse #2 works here in town mostly with Alzheimer's victims, and can
stop here before and after her shift; on the occasional days she works
double shift, pops in on her lunch break. Given the kid-bro connexion,
she considers herself 'family' and won't take money from dad. I almost
don't need an alarm in the morning, as she is a loud talker, and
starts in immediately she arrives.

Nurse #1 is going to get some of the same home-care-related items mom
has, and the docs expect her to be fully recovered by May.

We've just now gotten the cell number (actually, two of 'em) for nurse #3, who works at the same center as #2... they couldn't coordinate today due to a running-long staff meeting, leaving dad to do certain dirty work...
