Macrovision's lower-priced deal with investor Allen Shapiro has been
cancelled and the indie studio known more for horror ("Saw," "Hostel")
and lowbrow comedy (Dane Cook movies) than arthouse fare is buying the
cable channel and web site for $255M:

Lionsgate intends to have the channel continue to be competitive with
E! in the entertainment news/reality category--they already own pieces
of the VOD horror service FearNet (with Sony and Comcast) and Viacom's
forthcoming Showtime-killing premium channel Epix (along with MGM).
