They want its name taken off of the _____ Theatre and Hollywood and Highland. It's a small part of the final act of the story of film cameras. Kodak can not afford to pay for the naming rights because nobody uses cameras anymore. Everybody uses smartphones or flip-phones or even digital cameras instead of Poloroids (another dead company) or what not.

So, let's all pool our money together. Maybe the 2013 Academy Awards will take place at the "TV or Not TV Theatre". Or perhaps at "Tyler Perry's House of Oscars"!

Frankly, calling it the Kodak is symbolic because both the company and
theater are products of a bygone era.

The theater's stage was built to accomodate a 4:3 picture ratio, and
it would cost millions to make it widescreen friendly. Performers and
show producers dislike the venue, which is why a Cirque show has been
able to occupy the space more-or-less as a permanent resident for
dirt-cheap costs. It is inconvenient to have the Oscars there because
they have to shut down Hollywood Blvd for a small eternity. And the
parking sucks.

And, yes, I'm annoyed the Cirque show was shut down the entire month
of February when I planned on taking a lovely woman to see it, and so
now we will be going to Vegas instead. But that fact does not
influence my negative opinion about the theater at all, or at least
not much.

Predictable Update: The owners of the _____ Theatre and Hollywood and
Highland are not keen on the idea of Kodak -- who had just announced
they were making no more cameras of any kind -- backing out of its 20
year sponsorship after just 11 years, or of whatever Kodak owes them
of the $72 million.

Hmm, a Buffalo Wild Wings did recently open right down the street.

Now I'm picturing a tie-in commercial where a guy in the "Theater Irrigation Room" turns on sprinklers in order to cut the acceptance speeches short.
