I never seem to be able to make it along in the evening, but would
really like to meet up with everyone someday :) Would anyone be
interested in a TVIC lunch one day, or perhaps an afternoon tea or
coffee break?
I remember Marek suggesting we all get together for a 'hack day' a
while back. That could be fun, too. (Esp. if someone can bring along
a vodem or a box with a pair of wireless cards so we can all get
online...)
Cheers,
Phil
Sounds good to me. I could even get Karl along that way - evenings are a
bit of a no-go for him as well.

The incubator has tons of space and Interclue could provide the WiFi
coverage. Just a matter of picking a day when nothing else much is
happening, like on a weekend.
Would there be any point trying to throw together a last minute
"BarCamp" for next weekend do you think? So that we could be part of
BarCampEarth? I just noticed this...
http://barcamp.org/BarCampEarth
Hmmm. I expect we'd be much better off trying for a more organised
BarCamp at a later date, so that we'd get a few more visitors, but I
think I might be able to sell the Incubator on providing the space for
such an effort.
Anyone else planning on going to the eGov Barcamp in Wellington when
they have that?
Seth.

I reckon WiFi access + good coffee should be the mantra for a ideal
coworking place :-)
I wonder what places around ChCh have WiFi (ideally for free) and easy
going environment (ie. they won't mind bunch of hackers with laptops
invading their place for few hours).

I would be quite interested in BarCampEarth. But weekends are usually
diffifult for me. And I suspect for many others, too. Friday would be
a perfect day for this I reckon.
Shall we give it a go and meet up for few hours this Friday? Perhaps
as a combination of Interclue space + lunch somewhere

I haven't heard of it, but it sounds good. Do you know when-ish is it
going to happen? It would be great to get some cheap Air NZ flight
tickets and have a trip to Welly to attend.
Cheers,
Marek
Definitely... sounds like a plan, if we can find somewhere. There's
places like the Boardroom, but that's more an office than a cafe,
unless you hire one of their "cubicles", then probably pay Telecom
extra for the wifi!
Along those lines, does anyone know of any cafe wifi providers other
than Telecom in Christchurch? Up north there's cafenet, which has
much more reasonable pricing ($10/day). It would be interesting to
approach local cafes and see how they would feel about setting up wifi
for customers. Also get an idea of their costs... as in: how much
food/drink would one have to buy to cover the cost of occupying a seat
in there all day?

Sat, 15 Sep.
Cheers,
Phil
Sounds good to me. I checked with the Incubator manager and there's tons
of space free upstairs on Friday. I pencil booked us for the afternoon.
So, Interclue will provide the wifi access, or maybe the folk from
http://cheap-hotspots.com will if they want to come to the party.
I might talk to the Wowza.co.nz lads upstairs and see if they want to
sponsor us with pizza and beer :-)
Cheers,
Ok, I have posted some notes up here...
https://barcamp.org/MiniBarCampChristchurch
I thought of heaps of people I'd like to see talk about something, but
it's so late notice at this point. So I guess we see who turns up, and
we might plan for doing another more serious one on a later weekend!
I haven't told anyone else yet, but if nobody says "dude, seriously,
lets wait until another time" in the next 30 minutes, then I will start
emailing my contact list about this.
Cheers,
Phil
Well, I think your talk would be a highlight for many, particularly
since you haven't made it to TVIC yet :-) So to me the fact that you'd
like to delay and I'm totally overloaded myself this week is good enough
reason to wait, despite the BarCampEarth alignment.
Personally, I'd like to do it done properly and have a decent number of
people show up and give decent talks, and there just isn't time left in
the week for people to prepare themselves and arrange time off.
I haven't blogged it yet, doubt anyone else has, so I'll remove it from
the one place it is linked from and put on the webpage that we're
currently pondering what date we should do this.
Then tomorrow I'll check with the incubator about when rooms are
available over the next few weeks, and report back on this mailing list
as to available dates.
Then once we have a quick consensus on date(s) we'll blog it and post it
to the NZ2.0 list and we might get a few coming down from up north.
There are two other people I mentioned it to, I'll email them and let
them know it's being deferred.
Cheers,
Seth.

Cheers,

Yeah, I think that would be pretty cool too. BarCamp may not be quite
the right meme, doesn't seem to be suited to regular events. However
while browsing their wiki I spotted link to sister memes like:
Which seems more appropriate for this sort of thing...
I'd be keen to see it happen weekly, and I think there are enough
interested parties in the incubator now to make it work - so there'd
always be a tenant to supervise and a few people who'd show up on any
given friday, which would allow it to gather steam because people
wouldn't have to bother looking up to see if it was on this week, they
could just show up.
Cheers,
Seth.

Seth, great stuff with BarCamp. It probably is good idea to prepare it
properly here on the list and perhaps send out information about the
event to NZ2.0, Effussion, BBQ and other lists.
Another good meme that I can see happen quite easily would be SHDH
(http://superhappydevhouse.org.nz/). There was (first) one in Welly
few weeks back and I don't see any reason why there should not be one
here in CHCH.
Btw. is anyone still keen on lunch tomorrow (Friday)? I am thinking
Osaka Kitchen at 12:30pm and then go to C1 for coffee.
Cheers,
Marek

I think we should go for Friday 31st July.
The incubator manager and I had a look at the incubator booking list on
Fridays for the next wee while. Mostly clear, but the 7th Sep has
something penciled in. If we want to have a chance to attract some out
of town folks we'd be better to go with the 31st rather than next week,
because airfares for the 24th will be pretty high by now. The 14th is a
BarCamp in Wellington. Personally I'd prefer not to wait until 21st Sep
if we don't have to.
What do people think?
Seth.
Whoops, yes :-)
--Phil.
Yep, would be cool to get a large bunch of folks along. The incubator
certainly has room for it.

Indeed.

Yep, probably.

Perhaps something about some new features in the latest version(s)? Or
how to build a drupal module? Or a comparison against some other
popular CMS/Community system(s) you're familiar with?
Seth.
Cheers,
Seth.
