Hi guys,

Thanks to all that made it to last month's The Valley in Christchurch!

-8<--
What: The Valley in Christchurch Tech Dinner
When: 6:00pm Thursday 15th May 2008
Where: don't know yet. any suggestions for cheap, fully-licenced asian
place are welcome!
-8<--

I hope you can make it or join us for the likely post-dinner beverages.

Thanks for being a part of TVIC!

Cheers,
Marek

P.S. Please pass this invitation along to any friends or colleagues
who might be interested, here's our spiel:

The best thing about Silicon Valley is the people and the casual
conversations that lead to bigger things. These often happen in
Chinese restaurants. Christchurch has Chinese restaurants and it has
techy people so why not bring the two together?

Who: Maybe you? If this was a gathering of del.icio.us tags it'd
probably include "free software", "open source", "small business",
"contractors", "cool tech", "intelligent conversation", "community",
"international travel" but feel free to add your own.

May I suggest Ironside Thai? I've enjoyed every meal I've had there.

Ironside is really good, but perhaps not as cheap as some would prefer?

What about that Japanese place next to burger king on colombo st? It's
quite nice upstairs.

BTW: Since Webstock Mini got canceled, do you think it would be worth
trying to arrange a dinner on Tuesday in case some people had booked
flights to here and wanted something to do that night?

Seth.

I have not been to Ironside Thai, but if it is not cheap than probably
we should keep looking for an asian place that is cheap and serves
beer ;-)

I have not been to that Japanese place next the Burger King either. Is
it fully licenced and cheap? Name and link to dineout.co.nz would be
helpful ;-)

My original idea was to have a dinner after mini-webstock so we could
continue chatting about things after mini. But now it is canceled
(just curious: anyone knows why it got canceled?), it may be good idea
to have dinner on Tuesday. Dunno. What do you guys think?

Yes,

It used to be called Kami Kaze but I think it changed.

They said "unavoidable circumstances". I'm inwardly translating this into
"not enough bookings to cover costs". But I could be wrong.

I'd go.

Fully licenced, cheap and called "Kami Kaze"? I reckon we may have
winner here! ;-)

Anyone who was there recently and can confirm it's the place we want to go?

Otherwise I shall organize pre-tvic-dinner expedition to explore the place.

That's how I translated that email, too ;-)

Actually, the webstock site says it, too. Not enough people :
http://webstock.org.nz/upcoming/mini-13may.php

Here are my two reasons why mini-webstock boarded the FAILBOAT here in chch are:

- local speakers - we can meet at the TVIC dinner and have a chat
together. Why should we pay $75 for almost the same thing?
- most unfortunate: "organize it, they will come" does not work in chch

I wonder about one thing. I can see Mark Billinghurst as a member of
TVIC. I think Roger Dennis is on the list too. Would you guys be
interested to come over next Tuesday to the TVIC dinner?

Cool. I am keen to do it on Tuesday too.
