about finer control of blogs..

I currently have a single account with multiple blogs. I use these blogs as ways of keeping different activities separate from each other. 

The thing is though I would like to have finer control of sending messages, asks, and doing replies and such from my OTHER blogs rather than being forced to use my main one all the time. 

Will there be a time where I can choose from a drop down which blog I want to have make an ask, or send a message or any number of things? I don't WANT nor do I NEED to have a million tumblr accounts just to keep work and private life separate from each other. (being able to join other blogs from my side blogs would be awesomesauce too)

You can't. The way Tumblr is built right now, only your primary blog can "interact". You will need to create additional accounts to do what you want to do.

Facebook has something similar. You can have one personal account and the rest are essentially pages.

But personally, I don't like how Tumblr uses this system, because on Tumblr, 90% of the time, primary and additional blogs look the same from the outside.
